Man of Steel (Pre-release)

See, I love the long cape. The one thing that always bugged me about the Reeves suit was how short the cape was. I think the long cape gives a much more regal feel to the overall look. I could stand for a few less textures in the MoS suit, but I like it for the most part.

I am in the same boat here. I think the longer cape makes it look more regal as well. My main gripes are the briefs and belt. Why have a buckle if there is no belt? Also if there was no texture on the emblem, or a more subtle texture
i think it would look worlds better.

I agree that the Reeve suit's cape was a little too short. But I think this one is too long. I actually liked the suit from Superman Returns (except for the missing shield on the cape) -- and the cape on that suit was a great length.

I agree on the Returns suit, although I didn't like the way it looked like fabric on the underside and leather on the top side. If they had gone with just a fabric look and a larger chest emblem, I would have liked the Returns suit a lot more.

The new trailer was attached to The Hobbit, went to see it tonight. There was a round of applause after it played.

I remember the hype when "returns" came out, and I was excited to see that, and wanted to vomit after seeing it. I'm looking forward to seeing Man of Steel. As much as people want another "Reeve" style Superman, then watch those versions. They have to start over, update things. A friend and I were talking about the suit today, he commented that when Batman 89' came out, he was wearing a totally black costume, without even a hint of undies, and it worked until someone decided to put a Batbulge and nipples on the costume.

I want to see this, I want it to be good. The trailer was very emotional, if the movie can evoke a similar range of emotions from me, then it will be one hell of a movie.

When did making a movie realistic become synonymous with the character having a hard life?

Yes, often people have a hard time making it in the world, life isn't always easy, but this is SUPERMAN! He doesn't sulk in a cave full of bats, he constantly rises above things that brings others down. Not just with physical strength, but just his attitude.

That is what Superman means to me at least, not a unshaven emo on a fishing boat. If superman is pouting, what chance to the rest of us have? lol

I'm quite curious about this one. Not fully certain a Nolanized Superman is the way to go, though it seems that DC may be heading in that direction for their whole portfolio.

Problem is that people tend to think that realistic = everybody is morally ambiguous, full of angst in a dark and gritty setting.

The thing that bothers me most is how incredibly dark the costume looks. I really hate this trend of draining the image of all colour and brightness. It's that hipster thing that everybody loves except the general public.

Its not because Nolan's name is attached that he had soo much input or that were gonna see a dark knight version of superman. Sure from the trailer it does seem dark but i kind of like the fact that their maybe gonna go with how Superman himself deals with his powers and how he thinks the world would react. Bring on the change id say cus i for one was dissapointed with returns not only for the story but also that they went the "reeves superman" path.

Well, they took Batman into the real world, and it worked (at least for me) I'm wondering if they feel the same recipe will work with Superman.

Also, they may be exploiting certain themes in the movie. Just the way Jonathan Kent reacted to Clark's exposing his powers. You could imagine Clark growing up constantly being told not to get involved, hide his strength, keep everything secret. You were made to believe that doing something as heroic as saving a bus load of your friends was a bad thing. How would that affect you as a child. What obstacles in your life would have to happen to make you suddenly change.

I personally like the length of the cape and how it has the folds on the shoulders. Almost a Roman soldier type look. Very strong. They could have done a belt atleast, but all in all its a fresh look.

And superman "sulking" as it's been put isn't a bad thing. Shows his human side. The fact that he feels just like us. His mom talking him through what I can only assume is his super hearing in overdrive for the first time is a good look at him having to overcome more then we ever would. Jonathan is simply scared for his son when he says that line.

Think about it. You grow up with all these abilities, you are told never to use them for fear someone will hurt you or fear you, I assume he loses Jonathan and kind of wanders lost in the north for awhile wondering if he should or shouldn't be superman.

Looks amazing and a great balance between the "realistic look" and fantasy. Can't wait!

Who knows, maybe Clark is conditioned so much to hide his powers, something happens to Jonathan, and Clark doesn't save him. It may be something from the outside, like an accident on the farm, or it may be something physical, like a heart attack. Something makes Clark feel guilty for not saving his father despite all his powers.

Then the whole fishing boat thing, If you lived in a small town all your life, where everyone knew you, and suddenly, you were lifting buses out of lakes, and god knows what, and you wanted to hide yourself... Why not go to some far off part of the country?

Who says he's sulking? Before he came to Metropolis and got his job at the Daily Planet, it's well known and written in the comics that Clark traveled the world to learn more about it. Mixing with real people when travelling is definitely the best way to see and learn more about this planet and it's people and come to terms with your inhumanity and humanity.

Just googled Man of Steel and JLA movie. Snyder confirmed his MOS will have hints at JLA or at least be in the same universe. I'm very cool with that, but the article went on to talk about the JL movie possibly having more fantasy and possibly going back to the planet apokolips and that having a large part (in rumor) with the JLA movie. WTF??? That is the complete opposite feel and take on the franchise compared to TDK/R and MOS. Why would you try and pull away from what is working for you?

Found a prototype of the inevitable Superman action figure to be released with the movie:

I can only assume that, like Batman, they will be making a line of 'kiddie versions' as well as more expensive 'movie accurate' versions. This obviously being the kid one. Can't wait to see the Movie Masters one!

yeah thats my problem with that too. i love amy adams, but she is just not lois lane. of course i said the same thing about anne hathaway as catwoman
