Mal Pistol only done in a few pieces?

Hello Folks

I'm sitting here staring at my kit of Captain Mal's Pistol from Firefly and I was wondering why no one ever did a mulit-part (like a separate barrel and body for instance) kit of the thing. I'm thinking such would avoid the "warped/drooping" body/barrel issue of the "one" (or three piece kit) that I having to fix right now. Oh Well, just a thought!! If anyone out there takes this ball and would like to run with it...... I would "QUICKLY" be at your doorstep with the debit card in hand!!!

Well, people have done such a thing in the past... in metal, even.

However, the Mal pistol is one of those "don't touch" items right now, due to QMx's licensing agreement, so you won't find anyone jumping to make new kits or versions now.

I'd recommend doing a search for a philippes version, which is resin and has lineage to the originals. There are also metal kits (Sidkit) and finished versions (Model 47/47a) out there, but they're rather difficult to find now.

Main issue is nobody has ever really done a proper "kit" out of anything but metal. And then when casts are offered they are in cheap resin. Even the licensed versions have been made out of inferior material. From a business standpoint its all about pennies saved. The hero guns never had a droopy or warped barrel but the inner barrel was off set until they were rebuilt for the film.

A new run inst there out of lack of interest. If there was enough interest for a proper kit it would be done. Kit is the key word. These days people are so casual about being a collector they want everything done for them. Parts trimmed, finished, painted, assembled... that if something is not they hold out for something else or complain about a price. To do a project proper costs time and money. Its unbelievable what went into making the 47A and I mean that at face value. For someone to do the same out of a cast plastic I doubt people would accept the cost.
