Mad Max: Fury Road - Nux Bird Bobblehead

you never know, just just never know.... and the Nux car is not a ratrod, its a post-apocalyptic survivor Warboy Coupe. Or Nux's hotrod.

A regular Ratrod wouldn't do. and would be too easy to build.
Im already carrying on the research...

found this in one of the Behind the scene videos, I guess there is nest of skulls someplace, maybe some backstory to the bobble bird after all? Note the shape and the eyeballs.
Only shot I found, maybe something in the Wive's cave??

I'd be surprised if it wasn't a part of the costuming for these stilt walking guys in the "creepy place with the crows". Apparently they were supposed to play a larger part than a single tracking shot at some point, and it definitely looks the same as they do with the netting and the feathers.

Much thanks to the posters in this thread for all the good info! Note: Edited to get rid of the Photbucket links.

Have started on my bird…

Skull: Picked up a resin raven skull on ebay that is 3.75" long ($14 shipped). Did a fair amount of work on it: ground off the lower jaw, opened up the nostril hole, filed off the glossy black paint on the beak, then painted it. Here is the skull source: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262224768223

This pic show the base of the skull and gives hints as to how the spring might be attached:

Bases are 1'" air couplings, also from ebay. Have also ordered a couple 3/4" couplings from the same source to compare the size. Cut off the "feet" and hose clamp tube with a grinder. http://www.ebay.com/itm/361396993580?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Springs and nuts
These came from an Ace hardware store. Spring is a bit under 3/4" in diameter and fits the hole in the base nicely. Will need to be shortened a bit. Acorn nuts are M10x8 metric which are just the right size for this skull. 7/16" acorn nuts will probably work as well, but are hard to find.

Windshield wiper arm
Came from a pre '95 Toyota pickup. I drilled out the arm stops and hammered the arm back into the sheet metal piece so the spring mounting hole would be located correctly. This location can be seen in MMFR art book. Then cut off the small small end of the sheet metal piece to match the length of the movie piece. Then bent the arm up and cut it off to match the movie piece.

Left eye
Green cat's eye marbles for the left eye are are coming from ebay.

Zinc/galvanized coating removal
Bases, springs and nuts were soaked in vinegar overnight to remove the zinc plating (and galvanizing in the case of the bases).

Mockup to figure out where to cut the arm.

Cool. I don't think anyone posted a good source for the part in the gullet over the jaw. Some people said it was a part from a disk drive.

My bird is is still riding shotgun on the dash.

Here are some bases in progress. The two on the left are the 1" versions and the two on the right are the 3/4" versions. I wanted to use the same spring on all of them so drilled the 3/4" versions to just under 3/4" to fit the springs. the original hole on the 3/4" version is 1/2" and is shown on the right most base. Nut with new countersink shown in the inset.

Glad to see this thread is still kind of going. I wanted to make one long ago.. but until I saw NUXs car at the Peterson Auto museum in CA last week, I kind of forgot about it. I may have gotten yelled at by security for this, but here you go!
Sad it's broken, sad I couldn't get more... hope one of y'all can do better and go get kicked out by security!

I ended up just taking a few bits of sheet metal, cutting them up, welding them together, grinding them to a similar shape, fanning them out. They look perfectly fine.
The small one, I just bent over a piece. Also, looks fine!
Oh, and I used ball bearings for the eyes too.. I like em to glare! Now all my vehicles can be a part of the apocalypse...
