I'd say it's a Browning Hi Power for sure. The handle that we see matches perfect and the bottom plate of the mag. The pistol mags in the pouches on the battle jacket may also be for a Browning Hi Power now that I think about it.

I don't think he used 90% of the gear that is on the battle jacket. He seems to have AK mags in the chest pocket and I can't recall even seeing one in the movie. A lot of it seems like it's there for looks.

I chose the worst possible time to find this thread. I think the SADF 83 jacket sources just dried up. I literally just spent 8 hours searching for this jacket. I can't find one anywhere in the right color. I feel completely defeated. So as a last hope, I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows of anyone that isn't sold out. Or if anyone happens to have a spare, I'd be willing to pay far more than market value for it. Normally I can be patient and wait, but after putting so much time into this, it's really eating at me to have just missed it.

Came to this thread late too. But wow, i've learned a lot.
Has anyone contacted the wholesaler about acquiring the vests as a group order? Might be worthwhile. Including myself there are at least three people going through this thread after the M83 vests.

I would be interested in one of those vests, hbw60. Hopefully things work out.
I don't think a group buy would be feasible, because of the various exchange rates and shipping countries for everyone. It'd be easier to make one purchase with one shipping price, and then send them out. I will sell them to forum members for exactly what I paid, so I won't be making any money.
However, I don't want this thread to explode with requests, because nothing is certain yet. As soon as I have a response from the company, we'll know more. They may not ship internationally. If I'm able to place an order, I will update this thread and we can start making a formal reservation list.
In the meantime, I'm still expecting the worst (you know, hope is a mistake). So if anyone else has one for sale or knows of a dealer, please contact me. Thank you!

Still looking for a vest. So if anyone has got a recommended search term, please let us know.
Pulling the parts list that was published earlier in posts #366 & #368, is this still the list of additional pouches and magazines needed to fill the vest out?

MA1 Drop Leg Holster - Black (Added to that we also have the bicycle inner tube coverings for the drop leg holster straps)

Also, I'm a little confused about the knife sheath. Is the one that comes with the Chris Reeve Pacific the one to use, or should another be ordered for accuracy?

I have a quick update on the vests, with some good/bad news. The bad news is that I won't be proceeding with a group order, for two reasons. First, I realized that as a non-premium member, I'm not allowed to make sales here. And second, I was able to finally find the vest on ebay, so I don't need to continue.
The good news is that the supplier did write back. This company will ship single vests, so there's no need for a group order. However, they were very vague, and simply said that I "would need to arrange a DHL Courier Service". A bit of research gave me a $90 postage estimate. And I have no idea how I would arrange a DHL shipment myself. Personally, I'd recommend taking this route only if you're really desperate. I was desperate myself, but I ended up with a vest in less than 48 hours on ebay, so my advice is to just do a daily search there, and eventually you'll get one (by the way, mine was only $50, so that may give you some hope).
I used the search term "(SADF, South African, 83, m83) (jacket, vest) (military, tactical)". Search terms in parenthesis return any combination within, so if you copy everything exactly as it is inside the quotation marks, that should cover everything. Good luck!
