Macrobinoculars Build on a Budget: Display Bases Added

Ok so I’m not adding a camera to mine, I’m going for the transparency and el panel, when I eventually get round to starting it.

But if you need to replace the glass with a flat lens I would see if you can get a flat watch glass the right size, you should find it on evilbay easily enough.

When you come to do the wiring, if you’re using the existing switch I’d be really interested to see how it’s wired up.

The watch is a good idea, but too small. Thank you for the idea.

It actually needs to be curved.

Locking at an old pair of glasses I an thinking glasses lenses. Maybe costume glasses, or go down to Lenscrafters.

Holy crap this sucker is awesome, but challenging and tiring.

Been drilling a lot. Due to where they knobs are placed on the side you are drilling into the middle layer piece. Lots of dremmeling.

I don't think a tank could squish this thing the steal is so thick. Apparently they were thinking combat camera.

yeah, the Eumig is built like a tank indeed, I thought the same the first time I worked on it! it's not steal though, just aluminium, but it can be up to 1cm thick in place. old stuff was not made the same way we make stuff now, it's crazy! :)
but it's a super fun project, and all the figuring out for all the stuff to put on the Eumig is pretty cool i think :)

Yeah, I have never worked so hard physically on a prop but still had so much fun.

Eethan aren't you supposed to be off making my next bank account draining prop instead of sitting here relaxing and posting about stuff.

Get on with it!:p:love: :p:p:p:p:love::love::love::p:p:p:eek::eek::eek::cool:

ahah, it's 9PM here, I had a good day of work today, don't worry ;-)

I don't remember if I posted that already, at least I didn't here, I experimented a bit with a viscount viewer I had laying around last time I worked on my macros, I haven't finished it yet, and it's not a perfect fit, so I'm not saying to go for it if you don't have access to good tools, but the viscount glass is roughtly the same size as the transition box, the Kalimar hood and a good fit for the printed transparent that Tatooine machines sells and it makes for a potential fun vintage screen for the macros:

but yeah, cut like so, it's still not a perfect fit for the transition box. It could work though!

Do you guys know who offers really good prints of the macro view of the Banthas?

I will need one that is a specific size to go around my dashcam screen, obviously clear, with no Banthas. I want to try to capture the data on the sides, Luke view screen, etc.

I don't know if someone does it or not. If you don't find it and need something specific in size, I'll do it for you, at least the file. based on that 4k screenshot, it will not be too hard :)

That's perfect. I can just print it off,...dah! I am not sure what is wrong with my brain the last few days. Been arguing with the wife, which is actually rare, so maybe that is it.

Thanks Eethan. That will work perfect.

Okay I was the one who snagged the Kalimar off Ebay posted a page back. It was actually a friend who snagged it for me and we did a trade.

It was a lot to spend but the closest alternative was going for so much I decided to do it.

I was also gonna snag the set of modified Kaligar lenses in the junkyard, and we even made a deal for them but then I got some bad news that included some financial news and the summer is already so tight that other than a couple things I already have money set aside for everything needs to wait until the fall so that deal did not happen.

Okay here is where I am at.

Eumig gutted, transition box, and hood attached no problem thanks to Portumac's amazing transition box.

Kalimar buttons off. One screw on each had to be drilled. I think they were glued. The others came out no problem.

Bell and Howel dial came off easy. It spins as will the entire knob.

Seagull knobs a nightmare. Had to cut them out with tin snips. No clue how to remove them. Any ideas would be appreciated. The only thing I can think of is to gently dremel the metal off of them?????

Lots of misc, rings to accurize the lenses.

Great start Tom!

Also my fujita came in the mail today, I was glad to find that it is in better condition than the pictures seemed to show, the right side was missing housing and in bad shape, but the right still looks perfect, viewfinder is operational. The hinge pin was sticking out but not stuck, used a punch and knocked it back in.

The kowa lens arrived, one was pretty dented, found this thread on a camera forum, incase it helps anyone else with a dents lens

Great camera, I’ve never seen one of those with the correct size on the side of the viewing hood and no ridges poking out. Great find, that looks like a black Kalimar Six Sixty hood.

Thanks it’s the fujita 66 SQ. I got very lucky with this find, i can’t decide if I should paint the hood battleship grey or just leave it black. I still need a few more parts and to get through a couple of other builds before I can start, but it’s great seeing everyone else’s progress.

Great idea, viscounts are pretty cheap, for a moment I thought you’d used a trident!

I wonder how it would fit without the plastic, or if there is a different slide viewer out there that would fit better like the royal or manaview?

The inner lens from a trident also seem so be a similar size, though it may stick our more? I have a few of those spare so I’ll have a play

Here is where I am at.

Still need to add the notched rings to the lenses.

Need to paint the lenses darker. They are way to light.

Harry Potter cheap costume lenses are for the replacement lenses. Two pair for like $10.

So the circled piece is not part of the EIAJ plug. It's the receiver on another item, correct?

Eethan mentioned full tape recorders or rare vintage foot pedal board.

Anyone know a better way to search or what this part might be called? I've had no luck so far finding anything even remotely correct.

Thanks

Your going great guns at this, i’v not event started mine yet, I like to have all the parts in hand first)

Yep it is the female receiver. they are in old Sony reel to reel video tape recorders and 80’s ibenze effect pedals,

They are easy to find, but they are really expensive.

The part in the 2nd picture is the part of the board the receiver is soldered to.

This is the only pic I can find showing this thing. I don't see the plate on front of the female plug prongs:
