When I use Krylon workable fixativeas an alternative to the testors clear, I warm the can up a bit so that the paint atomizes better and comes out smoother. I then do several thin passes instead of one heavy one.

Edit to add: If there are some really glossy spots lightly touch them with 0000 steel wool and possibly another dusting of fixative.

Thanks Matsuo, I may try the steel wool. I was amazed at how the fixative really darkened up the graphite. It was like it almost wasn't even applied. I have it sitting on a shelf in my workshop now. I am going to add a few linked dummy .50 cal rounds also.
