Luke's Lightsaber Mando series finale.

ohhh, i meant to say earlier, not specifically to you personally, but the group...You ever think any of these guys and gals that work with Star Wars ever pose as like new member moles on the RPF to try to extract ideas and info that would help them? lol..i just have this weird suspicion that it happens..Very smart, if so.
Crap! you’ve found me out! (Runs away)

Just Kidding:lol:

I just want to put a couple things out there as supposition grows...

1. we should stop using black series, Galaxy’s Edge reproductions, or any other official consumer product as part of the equation. MAYBE one of those could be referenced, we know MR replicas have been reverse referenced— but in terms of practical FX, none of them would work for the needs of production. They are essentially toys. They don’t have the battery life or endurance needed for shooting duels days on end, (duels take several days to shoot). Also, it’s possible the ignition of the blade lights is done by remote. If Mando followed in the steps of the ST, those FX sabers also transmit XML tracking data to make animating the blades less time consuming and more automated in post. Toys are not going to help with any of this.

2. Just because production has access to the archives, that doesn’t mean they use them. TFA and TLJ both built versions of Luke’s saber instead of using the same prop. In fact, of all the lightsabers built for SW, only a couple belt-hangers have actually been re-used for more than one production. It’s often standard procedure, especially if it is a new prop team, to build from scratch. While I acknowledge Luke’s belt-hanger matching the Rylo, I think it’s still likely it was built for the show.

Another thing about the Elstree that pained me to change from what I viewed as canon on the ROTJ belt hanger (triangle) was how large it is. We bent some pretty big chunks of metal to wedge in there for that thing. (It was heated and bent at the corners) This made for a slight discoloration...a nice tell if the close up was cleaner.

Unlike my other sabers, it was wedged in so tightly that on most builds, the triangle would stay wherever you put it. It did/does not flop around at all. It will stay tucked up out of the way on most like you see in a few of these screen caps.

Again, it's larger and really wedged in there to mimic the Elstree.

Just another 'for what it's worth' thought.

I'm still unconvinced but intrigued.

My thought for why they may have bought/brought a fan-community saber is that they were keeping the Luke appearance/reveal a secret and the less people in the know the better the secret is kept. It’s possible making the prop would have involved more people in the mix than a down-low purchase or loaning a prop.

You may be on to something, last night I watched a video of why we didn’t get any footage of Luke in the season 2 documentary.

It was explained that all that footage was filmed on set, and they didn’t want the luke reveal spoiled so no one new about it

While filming and editing the footage of the documentary they feared the leak would come out so they left that part out entirely

There will be a new small interview with hamill soon

And we will learn he was more involved then just “coaching” the new actor ;)

Yah I heard about that! I definitely think they used a CGI Luke in fear of it being leaked. It would not surprise me in the slightest if they have Sebastian Stan on deck....Filoni and Favreau have a record for delivering what the fan base wants to see in universe ;) This SINGLE episode for me, made up for the last 2 things they call films

I was thinking the same thing. Disney has plenty of money for this kind of stuff, why would they bother purchasing something pre-made instead of using the prop department they have hired already? Well said.

Correct.. I don’t want to spoil anything. But keep and eye out for the new special

We are in for a big surprise
After all those show reveals, who knows what we're really in for this year?? 2021 is going to be a big year for this community for sure! :D

I have no doubt really. Rosario Dawson was the #1 fancast and sure enough, the legends made it happen.

I will SOO take a "Skywalker" D+ series starring Sebastian Stan about him going on adventures, training Grogu and being awesome. Cross over with the Ashoka show even just one time and I will be an unreasonably happy fan.

Maybe even have Billie Lourde as Leia and Anthony Ingruber as Han for a few episodes and you would have an ideal "passing of the torch" cast for the OT hero trio seeing as Billie already portrayed her moms iconic role, Anthony has played young Harrison before and IIRC gotten his seal of approval and Sebastian has been given the OK from Hamill.

Yeah, I really think F&F are gonna turn SW around. They already got me and a lot of other burned fans right back on board, even if somewhat cautiously.

OK, sorry, enough of my geeking out over a potential series.

Back on topic thoughts:

I think its certainly possible a ready made hilt was used for the sake of spoilers. Apparently episode editors had a black screen for the last 20 minutes for the same reason. However, I don't get the feeling Luke was last minute so I think the prop wouldn't be either. Adding to that, as I said before, if they had a fan-made Luke, why not go back to the fans for the Ashoka hilts if they were such a tricky job? Plenty of fans have made FX sabers of her Rebels/Mando style hilts. Seems like they'd be making unnecessary work for themselves. I could see it being an oversight that they just didn't think of considering they used fan-made stuff before but it doesn't seem all that likely to me all things considered. I hope we get some answers soon!

Luke was 100% not last minute :p F&F clearly have a agenda, and that’s to rebuild what was destroyed

Seeing how the ahsokas are 100% fabricated and how much more complicated they are then the hero

I strongly believe now they just made them

Honestly, yeah, that scene felt like they literally said "Hey. You wanted Luke being a heroic Jedi Knight right? Cool, now watch that, with the fog machine and badassery turned up to 11."

Its nice to see what good can come from Disney with epic sets, better prop budget and modern VFX that aren't horribly rushed can do for Star Wars.

EDIT: Realized this halfway sounded like I was mocking the OT effects. That is not my intention AT ALL. I still think they look great even if some of the effects are a bit dated by now. I just think modern VFX help deliver what the limitations of the effects from back then could not. Also, by horribly rushed I meant modern movies in general. WW84 for a very recent example. Good CG will enhance your movie, crap CG and too much of it will detract.

I think Mando strikes the perfect modern balance, using practical effects when possible, enhancing them when needed and doing full CG if unable to do something practically.

It's almost like they want to rebuild and diss at the same time

Yup... They bring in full-on Jedi Master Luke Skywalker & literally have him say, "He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing.".

That says to me what F&F's 'certain point of view' is.
