Luke X-Wing/Snowspeeder helmet showoff

Hey all, wanted to show off a Richie's Armor X-Wing helmet I worked on. :)

I painted it based on the really crappy, dirty look in the snowspeeder. This photo gave a lot of inspiration...

There were a couple details I slightly changed or left out. I wasn't concerned as much with accuracy as I was just giving the helmet an overall look and feel of the helmet used in the snowspeeder. The weathering might be a bit too blue, but I don't mind. I love how it turned out.

Altogether, it took about a week to finish and was a ton of fun. Definitely recommend this kit if you're interested in a fun painting project.

Sweet!:thumbsup
Thanks for sharing the pics.

I never actually realized how dirty is was by that time. Come on Luke, give it a wipe with some 409 once in awhile.:rolleyes

Man...I really need to get an X-Wing helmet:unsure

Personally, this is my favorite of all the helmets. If I can make just a couple of teensie suggestions. I feel the "ear" area should be just as dirty as the rest of the helmet. The other thing is the add the odd white chip. Other than that I love it. Everytime I painted this helmet people would always tell me it was too dirty, thinking all the helmets are the ANH version.
I'm glad too see someone else who 'get's it'. :thumbsup

I always wondered.... Who's helmet was Lukes before he flew in ANH since it was already was worn.....

Any thoughts on that?

Thanks all. :)

You can get the helmet from Richie's Armor, but the paintwork is probably something I won't be doing again. At least, not another Luke...

It's definitely my favorite too. I was considering adding a few chips and such. Maybe even taking a small modeling knife and adding some scratches, cutting through the paint and into the plastic.

Any chance you got any pics of what you've painted? Would love to see how someone else tackled this helmet.

Oh my gosh, I wish I did. I'll check with Steve and Richie tomorrow at the party and see if they saved any. But fear not, I'm getting ready to do another one and I'll take some step by step pics of the painting process.
I will say that for the "chips" I taped off the area I wanted chipped (left the area open and taped off the unchipped areas) and just sanded down to the white sintra. It won't take much sanding at all and you can cover many chips at one time. :)

Nice, paint finish might be a little matt though, the reference pic shows the sheen that the helmets had.Might be worthwhile experimenting with a clear semi-gloss overspray,it'd darken the grime and restore the sheen.

To get an idea how it might look try wetting it down(provided there are no unsealed decals of course :) )

Yeah, I might try playing with that at least on some kind of test surface. I've had such bad luck with clear coats in the past though, so I'm a little hesitant.
