The chunk probably keeps the pommel on, like a set screw.

I don't know. For all I know, the booster could extend into the pommel but from what I see in the pictures and what was said about the pommel fitting into the booster with flanges, I don't think so. Everything below the booster is a separately machine piece (you even see a separation groove under the booster).

I think the two likeliest theories so far, for me, as to what it does/is, is that it's a plug for a hole and the other (which I hold onto) is that it's a wart. Do we even know that it's definitely a separate piece from the lightsaber? As in it was added to it rather than something that's a part of it?

Plug for a hole then is my new opinion. Your wart theory just sounds incongruent with what we know about the saber being cleaned up with machine tools.

I only keep that idea if the others for it prove to be wrong. If it isn't a screw of some sort, if it's not a something jimmied together to plug a whole, then I don't know what else it could be.

I'm just saying, the Luke/Ben shared stunt has a recess where the V2 has the chunk.



The way I see it, they both came from the same mold, and both were used for stunts (never ever thought of being seen up close like this and thought this hard about), both probably had the same warts. But when the day came when lightsabers used in production needed to be displayed and toured with, they grabbed one of these stunts to gussy up and made to look in line with the other Luke sabers on display. They grabbed the shared stunt instead of the V2 (either lost at this point or just not chosen) repainted it, slapped some chrome tape on the clamp, milled the wart, and repainted the thing.

That's not a recess in a machined surface, it's aluminum tape covering a hole.

It most likely is; in fact, it's probably exactly what it is! I'm just keeping that option open in case all things turn out to be false.

In any case, it's most likely a screw, similar to that of what James Kenobi posted about. Considering the size of the hole, it's more than likely that it's just a larger version of what he posted.

I also feel like the part of the lever where the rivet goes may be too tall? And it looks maybe a tad long to my eyes? Just trying to offer constructive feedback, not to be a jerk Anyway, this image has me extra stoked...

EDIT: You know, my eyes might be playing tricks on me the more I look at it.

I agree, Roy. From this perspective the gold keys look a bit narrow. I mean, the spaces between the gold keys seem too wide in this render.

I have a feeling the original knurling on the cone knob was more like this, off my "mystery" german flash unit. Look at the knurling around the red button. Today, finding a knurling die (terminology?) to cut the edges, they may have only been able to find one that was a mm larger, like on the indicator lamp on the other side of my saber.

Edit: it's also not that rough or big, this photo is really macro. Kurtyboy put up a picture too, more realistic

not to get off subject but I haven't seen too much talk about the D-ring. do we know the exact d-ring to look for? is it stainless or aluminum?
