*Luke ANH Macrobinoculars body found. ARCHIVE PLEASE!*

WoooHOOO !!!

Small update :

the lens is absolute right, there is at least one correct focus knob on the lens, maybe two on both sides.

If you take a close look to the screen caps above you can clearly see two knobs on each lens

The knob was missing on the first image I posted.

Now I have my sheep in the dry, so I can drop my pants after it arrives

Excellent work Stephan!

ATTENTION SCREENCAP GURUS!
Go to the scene where Luke is pushed back by R2 in the garage.
You can see the Macro coming off of his belt - he holds it for the next scene where he's looking at Leia's hologram.
This is clearly NOT a Eumig - but another camera!
The small viewfinder hole is clearly seen at the right hand side of the prop.
This appears to be the big and small (Biggs returns pic) lens version, which I now will call the StuntMacro.

Howard.

Interesting. Come to think of it, the garage scenes would be the only ones shot at Elstree where he has the macros. Perhaps the original(s) didn't return from Tunisia or whatever.

I have it on good authority they (almost all) the handheld props did not return from location in Tunisia.

Also, in the scene where Luke is searching for R2 you can see a subtle yellow light coming from the Macro viewfinder for just a split second. This is the Eumig version. No doubt the prop master gutted it to fit a bulb.

This statement is vaguely disturbing, and I'm not sure why.

yeah that`s true, I`m a little restless and finding things is really more satisfying as holding the things later in my hands.

I found the camera after 15 minutes in a book - not a big satisfaction this time
icon_wink.gif

What should I do now ? Post the model or better not ? I feel a little confuzed now. The camera is rare and expensive enough without SW. Any Thoughts ?

I´m quiet sure that NOTHING can stop the run on these, so the price will double or more.

I have no Eumig yet but these are not really uncommon here, Eumig built ca. 60-70.000 of these.....

And 75% of them are probably collecting dust in peoples storage areas... They will continue to pop up at garage sales and flea markets without the inflated price, just have to wait it out.

yepp, that`s it !

The time will come when I find my Eumig for 20 bucks on eBay via buy-it-now or maybe a customer will visit my store with that camera in his bag...

Get the SW parts from this camera cast in resin?

I for one am dying to know which camera the lenses and viewfinder come from - don't suppose you'd be so kind as to PM me with the details eh?

Unfortunately, it seems that the viewfinder and lens pictured above belong to the "Anchorhead" version of the binocs. I can't find any pics confirming the other version (Eumig) version shared that same viewfinder, nor can I tell if the lenses are the same.
</TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE><SPAN CLASS=$row_color>

I'm still getting up to speed on this, but from what I can tell the lenses and hood Stephan found are the Eumig version ones.
The best shot of these parts are the b&w Luke pic that's a near profile. Normally you would expect to see the large knob near his hand except he's got it upside down (compared to Bantha spotting scenes).

The Biggs/Anchorhead one is apparently a different one though (mismatched lenses, different hood, different but similar body).

I haven't checked the garage scene. I'm pretty sure most of the weapons made it back from Tunisia though, not sure where the perception that a lot of that stuff was left behind came from.

These discoveries were a big surprise when I got back from San Diego!

Looks like you can FINALLY update the Macrobinoculars section on your site now, Chris!

A LOOOOOOONG time mystery solved!!!

I just got back from Comic Con and discovered you guys have covered a lot more ground then I had anticipated, good for you!

There seams to be confusion about the macrobinoculars, maybe this will help. I’ve researched the macros for a long time and there appears to be only two macrobinoculars that were built, that I’m aware of! One is the “Hero” that utilizes the Eumig body and there is the “Stunt” version that you see Luke running around with. You can easily tell which is the “stunt” from the “hero” by the location of the view finder, the “hero’s” view finder is on the right side of the binoculars and the “stunt’s” view finder is on the left side. In the “filmed” scene where Camie and Biggs use them, they use the “Hero” binocs. In the rehearsal and publicity photo session of this scene, you see the “Stunt” binocs......The one used in the garage scenes is the “hero”.

I’m not going to break the secrecy here, but as for the lenses and the view finder on the “hero”, the camera they come from are rare and you can expect to pay between $700. to $1,500(maybe more when word gets out) to make Luke’s macrobinoculars. The partial pictures of the camera shown on the previous pages, is not the “exact” model, but it’s “really” close to it, it’s just missing the two little knobs on the lense. If the word finally gets out as to what the camera is, I’ll show off my collection of these cameras and show you the little differences there are in the models of this particular camera.

A small tidbit: the EumigÂ’s rectangular light collector, is the rectangular piece on top of the macrobinoculars body.

I wanted to answer the IMÂ’s I had gotten from some of you, to the questions about the my collection of eumigs that I posted a picture of.

**No, I’m not planning to sell any of mine. I’ve been trying to find as many as I could and preserve them, before they were found out and then got hacked apart and modified to make Luke’s binocs......Yeah I know! I’m one of those “fricken purest!” Sorry!
icon_smile.gif

**As to where I bought all of my Eumigs, I bought everyone of them off eBay.

**To answer “why I’m a little tight lipped about the macros?” Just incase MR comes a calling and needs a prototype in the future! God knows, if MR’s built them to sell, they would be cheaper to buy then buying actual pieces to make your own!

A quick comment to “morganthirteen”. Love your scratch built macrobinoculars!! They’re a better representation of what we “think we see” on the screen, rather then how they actually are in real life, which is kinda of a disappointment design wise.

IÂ’ll try and check in more often to answer anymore question you may have.....questions that I can answer that is!

Save the Whales, erm Eumigs, sorry !
I`m a camera collector too, so I understand that well.

Now after Bantha found the correct camera before, I`ll let him the decision of sharing his collection here on board.

I won`t do it.

Cheers,

Stephan

That's not exactly the best way to tell because which side the viewfinder is on depends on how Mark Hamill decides to hold it for the scene (See photo of Luke I mentioned in my previous post).
The mismatched lenses are an easier tell (or in the case of one photo a lens fell off the stunt).

Ouch!!! Please don't say, "Hasselblad"!!!!

Hasselblad is expensive but not rare
icon_wink.gif

Don`t be afraid about Bantha`s commentary, I guess he meant that price if you find a "mint" or "A" condition camera.

I finally got my black camera this morning and the price was around $250 for a normal used camera including the correct lens. Saw some on ended auctions around $300-400 (complete outfits).
