I`m a resin-dork. What happens to a lens if it falls into silicone ?
</TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE><SPAN CLASS=$row_color>

Usually, nothing. Silicone doesn't stick to anything. Now..depending on how the lenses are constructed, there should be no damage to them by molding them. Given that lenses are usually sealed (to keep out dust), there shouldn't be any danger of any of the silicone getting inside making it hard to clean.

...and I agree with Chris. It's too hard to determine what "side" the viewfinder is on, because they shot the macros from different angles to get different views of the same sides. There is no true up, down, right or left, if you ask me. That's why I compiled the information earlier in the thread, so we'd all be on the same page.

Regardless, maybe Bantha Crossing could provide us better photos of the viewfinder, lenses and the "light collector" without revealing any info about the cameras themselves. I'd just love to see better reference of what the parts themselves are supposed to look like,

thanks pilot for hosting !

EXCELLENT work Stephan!

Now - where did I put that bank loan agreement....it's around here somewhere...

Seriously - now we can see how the viewfinder was attached to the Eumig.

EDIT: Bantha Crossing, do you think the pictures posted by Pulseriflefan above are of the correct camera?
He's pretty sure of the make - I can't see another model by this company being more accurate to the prop.
A yes or no answer will do - or you can PM me.

Thanks!

Howard.

I'm still not seeing it. There's a piece (light collector?) between the viewfinder and the light gray part of the Eumig body, right? Or does the viewfinder attach directly to the black part on the front of the camera (or is THAT the light collector)?

ps. I believe it's very possible that the knobs for the macros came off the same camera as the lenses and viewfinders (based on a very educated guess)
icon_wink.gif
. At least the large ones. Or has that already been theorized?

I agree, that there is a piece, a small "box", between the camera viewfinder and the Eumig body. It will probably be tricky to find...

Good catch Howard...

It seems then that the viewfinder was flipped (upside-down), when put on the stunt macros, correct?

-Brandon

I suppose it depends on which way is up Brandon - it's a difficult call.

In the pic above, the Eumig (hero) macro is upside down compared to how Luke uses it while watching the Banthas.
From that Bantha scene the finder is flipped down, so it appears from the side like this: |_
Luke uses the macro (hero with lights in the finder) in the same way while he's searching for R2.

In the large B&W publicity still of Luke from the left hand side using the macro (I believe this to be the stunt 'Biggs returns' macro, as I can't match up the seam lines with my Eumig) the finder is positioned opposite to the Bantha/R2 scenes, and it is used as it would be on the camera.

Howard.
EDIT: Signed twice.

Yeah.the "small box" between the viewfinder and Eumig (where the front lense and light meter went) is what I'd been wondering about. Is that the "light collector", and if so is it part of one of the cameras in question?

Is there any image from the "underside" of the macrobino ?
All images show the same side of the Eumig camera.

The finder on the non-Eumig bino seems to have no "box" between the finder and the camera. There`s just a big "gap".
And I can`t see the "side-doors".

Watch my finder in closed position and you`ll see why you need a box. The "side-doors" need a lot of space under the finder when it`s in closed position.

On the non-Eumig bino I can`t see any "side-door", so there is no need for a box. Makes a sense to me.

Actually, I think the stunt binocs do have a box. I'm not sure if it is the same box as the heros:

I believe this is the only pic we have of the backside, and it is the stunts...but I'd imagine the heros were similar, just a simple belt clip.

To answer Kurt's question, I do not believe either of the two cameras found so far has the small box.

So is this black part, part of the camera's internals Stephan?
The stunt and hero look identical!

I believe that is the Hero upside down. The finder doesn't match the stunt and those are the Hero lenses. The lenses are attached to a black plate which is showing a lot of wear. Just below Luke's ring finger is a gap from the rounded corner of the Eumig. It should match up with the side of the camera closest to the Eumig label.

What is the source of that above picture??

Was it shot when Luke was working on the macrobinocs?

If so, it makes sense that would be the same version used in the Tusken Attack, and not the version from Anchorhead...

In the “filmed” scene where Camie and Biggs use them, they use the “Hero” binocs. In the rehearsal and publicity photo session of this scene, you see the “Stunt” binocs......The one used in the garage scenes is the “hero”.
</TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE><SPAN CLASS=$row_color>

So it sounds like the stunt ones were only used to block out the scene in rehearsal. I checked the real footage and it looks like the Hero is used in the closeups while the stunt was likely used when Camie tosses the binocs back to Luke. In the publicity pics the stunt binocs have lost one of the lenses so maybe Camie or Luke dropped 'em once.

Also of note- Camie holds the binocs "correctly" (Eumig label up) unlike Luke in the above pic. You can also see a bit of the underside, but my video copy of the footage is rather poor. I believe it's on the Behind the Magic CD-ROM, but I can't check it since it's PC only.

Howard -any chance you could shoot a pic of the underside of the Eumig?
