Jason,

I see you ran to Google as well!

Still pretty cheap too.

That'll change.

Yep. It multiplied within HOURS...

Hm, maybe just secure a few for Boardmembers, offering them at reasonable prices, and then let the hunt begin ;-)

Another observation...

I have a feeling that the lenses may NOT be 35mm camera lenses, but possibly be lenses off the later 8mm sized movie cameras???
</TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE><SPAN CLASS=$row_color>

I'd made a scale drawing some time ago. Afterwords, I measured some lenses at a local camera shop and the ones I drew seemed to match 8mm IIRC.

The prop has the two lenses stuck on the back end of the Eumig camera, the end of the Eumig camera that you would normal point at the subject is the end with the viewfinder attached. So basically Luke is using the Eumig backwards - typical farm boy.

this viewfinder part of TLR can use on it...

I think alot of the side knobs could have possibly come off of the same reflex camera the viewer came off of.

Could make sense that the prop maker "gutted" one reflex camera for the *add-on parts*.

There's still alot of pieces to I.D. for this prop.

An area on the *viewer* cover to look for...

Notice, in the two pictures above, the main cover of the viewer. The first picture shows a viewer that has a cover *edge* that's straight across. The other picture of luke looking through the original prop shows a viewer with a cover "edge" that is NOT straight across!

A detail to look for in the viewers when hunting for the correct style!

That's what I've been doing for a LOOOOONG time and still haven't found the right one!

I've searched all morning for this to no avail!
I'm still convinced we're dealing with two *slightly* different props.
The closest match for lens in the pic posted above by stormpath are by Mamiya.

Howard.

I can't find right one just like you.

the mostly TLR camera is made by GERMAN JAPAN CHINA. I saw lots of them. no right one was found. so I think maybe it's not from a 120TLR. It's from a 120SLR camera.

HOLY CRAP!

I was helping a friend move this last week and I happened to see a case with a Super 8 camera in it in their garage, complete with two rolls of 8mm film and camera accessories! They put their stuff in storage. I think it was this prop but I am getting with them to take a closer look at it and see if it this ANH prop this weekend. I know they'll sell it to me for cheap!

What is the model # and any specific design features for me to look for?

Oops, never mind. I clicked the link at the top of the first page...

All the cameras I've looked at have straight edge covers. However, Is it not possible that this cover was removed (the covers are all made of plastic and all seem to have a logo or design on them) revealing a second cover underneath. This second cover underneath might match the one on the original prop better.

Notice on the original prop the cover and sides of the viewer are the same material whereas on the cameras, the cover looks like a aesthetic add-on.

the cover is made from metal. all the chinese old TLR's viewfinder is made from metal. in that time china haven't made many plastic part for camera.
the log is glue on. can be removed.
I think in the movie there is not a add-on cover.
that cover maybe a 120SLR camera. I will keep finding...

Howzabout for the sake of discussion, we agree on some terms and particulars so we're all on the same page? Here's what I suggest, based on my observation of reference photos, film and now the Eumig discovery. Let me know if anyone disagrees with what I'm proprosing - I'm pretty sure I can prove my theories with reference photos:

There were at least 2 variations of Macros used in the film.

A, One based on a Eumig camera, which is featured in the Bantha attack scene (and I believe the deleted moisture vaporator scene), which I suggest we refer to as the "hero" since IMO, it looks nicer and more detailed than the other variation.

B, A second model based on another camera body, which is similar to the Eumig (the one showed during the droid examination scene and I believe the deleted Anchorhead scenes). The other differences from the "hero" being at the very least a set of mismatched lenses, more knobs and a different viewfinder.

Does that sound right?

OK, after checking my old camera stuff I "may" found something which looks not too bad.

I don`t have much ref material of the bino, so please LMK what ya think :

well, I don`t want a run on these rare cameras yet.
Believe me, these are much more rare than the the Eumig.
I`m selling cameras since 20 years but never touched one of these....

I`m asking for better images and details, maybe it`s just close....
