Someone here knows what was used for the pilot in the ILM X-Wings. The pilot CC provided with his kit is fine but I'd rather have what was used in the shooting miniatures.

So who know what it is.

    I'm not above begging. [IMG]

I guess I'll have to join the silent minority.

I wouldn't want to get bopped over the head with the wrong figure info. [IMG]

I would start looking at the upper torso of your 1/24 scale harrier pilot and the arms from your 1/24 Me 109...the head from 1/24 dragster model I think.

1/24 Harrier pilot body is in fact correct. Harrier pilot arms look good, too. Still looking for the head, though.

Here are some of Frank's pics of his ILM pilot casting which he emailed me and asked me to post. I've enhanced & cropped them:

Geez, Jamie, cut the guy some slack. Anybody is free to guess at this stuff. Hell, we pretty much all have at least one 1/24 Harrier laying around to check out. And while we're guessing, it helps having more than one or two guys offering suggestions as to what a part might be.

For example, I hadn't thought about dragsters until C17LM mentioned them today. Now I'm back to looking through my catalogs. He just might have something there. And if the helmet is from a dragster kit, we'll consider ourselves lucky that C17LM stopped by.

Besides, I recognize this guy's username. This may be his first post since we left ezboard, but I remember him posting back there, too. Here's his ezboard profile.

And no, I don't think we should lock this forum down. I've said before that I respect any individual's desire to withold information, for whatever reason. I may not always agree, but I understand.

Even so, I'm still here to learn stuff. And while I can do a whole lot of learning on my own, it helps enormously to have other guys around who are willing to share what they've also learned, 'cause it's almost always different from what I've picked up on my own. I don't know where I'd be without the gracious help of so many others who've posted on this forum.

Now, let's relax and have some fun, allright? It's only a model...

Now would be a good time to tell everyone you were being really sarcastic and really didnt mean what you said.

Then apologize for being taken in the wrong context.

Also Beaz take a look at 1/24 Dragster and formula kits for arms and Helmet...he said they used arms from racecar drivers too and I notice a checker pattern in the arms which indicates racecar/dragster suit...still working on helmet stay tuned. Also dragsters also includes funny cars from the 70's...Remember the Snake and Mongoose? very popular cars back then.

TEXT leaves alot to be desired...in terms of Communication.

Jamie and I have spoken many times. I could HEAR it as I read it..and I really think his post came across....in the wrong way.

Im glad...OUR thread...handles things like this...in a GENTLEMENLY manner..unlike the PROP WACKOS of the other Board.

On the theory of parts from dragster drivers being used. Here are the kits of the Mongoose-Snake that were mentioned by Mr. Lee.

Not sure if you can tell from the picture or even if the picture represents what the kits look like inside, but it looks like the helmets aren't it in this kit. I don't know about the arms though.

Looking at that pic from Frank........lee and I have been talking. Maybe they modified the helmet. As in adding styrene over the faceplate to hide a face. Not sure......but its a theory. Will be hitting my hobby shop...because I know they have that kit there.

I was at one of my hobby shops for a few minutes. The only racing cars that showed to have a driver was a Revell 'Sprint Racer'.
I don't know if these were around in the early 70s but the driver it had , the helmet looked very close. You would have to fill in the exposed face to make the visor but the shape of the helmet looked like a good possibility.

Anyone want to agree or dissagree?

Looking at how wide the helmet appears etc. It is a large possibility that they did jaz it up especially after looking at the strip across the top. I'm trying to get an answer but it may take a awhile but according to what I have been told he thinks it was a build up for the helm. also checkout arms on the overhead shot of red 3 in art of SW the arms are almost the same as the harrier pilots however Cerney's arms are in an opposite position thus being inconsistent with his being the arms of a pilot figure since aircraft throttles are on left side. Now car drivers shifters are on the right and they drive with left hand when shifting thus pointing us to his arms being from a car driver of some sort. I relaize I've analysed this to the nth degree but it makes sense..also my source told me that some figures are different in other X-wings.

On a side note. That looks like a visor port off of a kit like the (8rad) on top of the instrument panel on the above pic.

I can't help it, I'm at the point that everytime I look at one of the ILM models I'm looking to see what parts were used. (sigh)

What's got me so wigged out is how wide the helmet looks...most of the helmets from the 70's did not slant outward like that on the sides they were usually a straight shot down not angular like this.

    I find this interesting:

Check out the pre-production sketch of the pod positions on the Tantive IV in the Star Wars Chronicles page 51. Look at the helmets of the figures inside. Leads me more to believe the helmet was sculpted or a stock helmet was modified.

Also this same pilot figure from the X-Wing is in the TIE fighter and DV TIE fighter painted black.
