I'm doing a small number of these this year, and just like the one for Jerry Miculek and Brock (here: REAL FIRING STAR WARS BLASTER! WORLD RECORD 6 shots in 0.8 seconds with Han Solo's DL-44! )
This one is a real Mauser C96 Broomhandle converted to an accurate live fire Han Solo ANH Dl-44 Blaster.
This one is based on a Pre-War Commercial C96 made in 1910, and sports some Dark Energy Creations, and Todd's Costumes parts for the final build.
Also included is a real vintage WWI Hensoldt Wetzlar 2 3/4x that's in outward dimensions identical to the correct 3x scopes.
Here's some pics from the build and the final blaster:
First was cutting the barrel, threading it, and fitting the bull barrel
Then Brazing on the mount studs
Machined and fitted the special booster
Final fitment for initial test.
First range test along with my ESB Luke live fire. It needed a little fiddling, but luckily my experience with my own and the Brock’s gun, I was able to dial in reliability within 20-30 rounds and it was about 100%. After the new springs were broken in, it’s running awesomely.
Late night weathering
After all final paint and weathering, a final test to ensure reliability. This time with one of my own pre-war Mausers for fun.
Finally some clean shots of it all done
As you can see, we went with the painted lower interpretation. I have to say, when doing the weathering, it really does match the reference pics nearly identically. I think this is the way the original prop was done… instead of my old assumption of it still being blued steel… maybe? possibly???
If you look at one of the pics above of the scope in early test fit, you’ll notice this scope had a windage knob base with two “walls” and a retention screw. I have to create a fixture to chuck the base in the lathe, and turn it down to the correct thickness to match correct 3x scopes. Then I had to use the fixture in a rotary table on my mill to mill the front wall off, to make it correct. I also wanted to retain the original paint on as much of the base as possible, so only two surfaces needed paint, and I tried my best to match the patina and wear that was originally present.
Here’s some video for you
