Except, Volbeat is fairly original in their approach... it's not a parody or a satire as is Dread Zeppelin. They're taking their influences - the thrash / metal, rockabilly and punk and doing something that's more than homage.

...and the few covers that they do (I Only Wanna Be With You, I'm So Lonesome) aren't anything close to what Dread Zeppelin or other parody type bands do. Check out the reviews, Volbeat is fairly highly lauded.

FWIW, I just discovered Volbeat... think Elvis meets Metallica meets Social D meets... I don't know, but it's good stuff.

I'm loving their stuff right now. Fallen has hit rock radio, but all of their stuff seems to be especially tasty. I can't recommend an album (as it's all still sinking in), but Fallen, I Only Wanna Be With You, Heaven Nor Hell.... gosh, so much good stuff.

JD is right....seriously, these boys ROCK. Vocal wise it's a rockabilly Cash, meets Danzig meets Hetfield. GREAT. STUFF.

The new album is Beyond Hell, Above Heaven. It's solid with songs like Fallen and 16 Dollars....but the album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood is FANTASTIC.

Going to see them next week in Mpls. My buddy Goat just saw them in Chicago a week ago and he was blown away.

The "BEST OF" anything should not even count as an album as it is really a compliation of the best of many songs from many different albums. In short, it's bias to perfection.

P.J. HARVEY : Rid Of Me - To Bring You My Love
REVEREND HORTON HEAT : Full Custom Gospel - Liquer In The Front - Spend A Night In The Box

There are about 10 that I still love to listen to cover to cover but I'll list 3 for now.

No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom

The Mighty Might Bosstones - Lets Face It.

Eminem - Encore

Ohhhh.. ANY of the super eurobeat albums. That shiz gets me pumped up!!

for a thread about "no filler" it sure is filled with lots of filler.
Agreed. I'd say around 99% of the albums I'm seeing on here (granted, I admit to not knowing all of them front to back) have at least one or two songs that are auto-skips if I'm trying to listen to the whole album.

That even includes Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon - that album is half ambient noise! In context its fine, but it's also filler. I'd consider Wish You Were Here a better album in terms of "perfection."

Of course, perfection is subjective.

Common People is much better with Shatner. As with Rocket Man, he owns that song now.

Just quoting this to say :thumbsup

Personally, I think its criminal that Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape hasn't been mentioned. That's the first album I think of when this subject comes up.

I guess I listen to stuff nobody else is into . . . but these are truly awesome albums start to finish.

Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
New York Voices - Sing! Sing! Sing!
Phoenix - It's Never Been Like That
They Might Be Giants - John Henry
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
Venus Hum - Big Beautiful Sky
XTC- Apple Venus

That's 10 albums out of 1829 in my collection. I would say that I love all kinds of music, and there's plenty of artists that have been listed previously in this forum that are in my collection, but these 10 albums are the only ones I would list out of the 1829 as being perfect start to finish. Each album has its own musical story arc, and each of these albums has its own unique musical story.

Now, on perfect songs . . . I can think of a few, but two come jumping to my mind as being literally perfect.
1. Appalachian Spring Suite - Aaron Copland (It's 25 minutes long and so so perfect)
2. Land of Make Believe - Chuck Mangione (The 8:55 version on his 1996 "Greatest Hits" Album"

It's tough to find an entire album of "perfect start to finish" material.
Lots of good stuff listed so far. I'll add...

Cheech and Chong's -- Greatest Hit
Bill Cosby -- Himself
Stevie Ray Vaughan -- In Step and Live Alive
AC DC High Voltage
Heart -- Little Queen
Pink Floyd -- Wish You Were Here
Rod Stewart -- Every Picture Tells a Story

I have tons more if you take two or three tracks out.

There are too many choices, and each one is correct. (to each his own)
