LIGHTYEAR costume thread

Hey guys!

I though I would start a thread where we can gather reference from the upcoming movie Lightyear to help us build our costumes. I plan on doing my costume in 3D then printing it.

I'll start! Here is what I got:

Clear almost-spheres are not too hard to find, they're sold for lighting fixtures. The tricky part is that it looks like the helmet dome might magically disappear into a suit where it doesn't fit. In a costume if would be bumping into your back long before it disappeared from view.

I am super excited to see this project come to life! I felt like a wide eyed kid again seeing the suit in the trailer and am wanting to drop everything to make my own!

I hope we get some stills showing off the back and jetpack soon, I need my wings!

(Imagine if this starts an all new cosplay branch, like "The Space Ranger Corp" or "Star Command")

I'm wondering if the wings will be a separate 'backpack' type deal.
Yeah I guess so, it looks like attachment point on the back.

Then we'll just have to become toys  how about an inflatable clear sphere?

Same here! it's the movie I didn't knew I needed.

We know from the latest trailer the movie takes a 60 year jump. All the promo material has him dressed in the suit on the right. But at the end of the latest trailer he salutes in the suit on the left.

I wonder if thats the "final suit" or if its an "older render" of his suit that made its way into the trailer.

Nice.. I think a space ranger Corp would be a great group.

What do you think is the name of the fabric of the jumpsuit he wear in that picture

You are right. The knees pads are not the same. More like the toy version.

I guess we will know soon. Amazon say may 17th for the artbook release.. but a month before the movie feel like an error

The image of the glove fabric looks like an open-weave triaxle weaving pattern. Normally triaxle weave is very tightly woven as its advantage is the greater strength which triaxle provides over the normal two-way (weft/warp) weave. You can find some open weaves used in fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, etc. where the open weave pairs with a resin. Not sure we will find it in a more costume-friendly fiber.

Oh thanks! I was wondering if someone from Pixar be able and allow to photoshoot the new statue
