Lifesize American Werewolf in London wolf head project

I've been ill with manflu, but still made a little progress:

The chin area still needs major reworking and I've decided to go with glass eyes, rather than painted. So the eye sockets will need completely redone too. Glass Eyes should be here in a couple of days.

Old Skool horror is the future! :lol

Still waiting on my glass eyes. In the meantime I've finished up the sculpt, painted him and started the hairing.

I don't enjoy hairing masks and busts, it;s such a fiddly job. Punching isn't too bad, but as this is a solid piece I'm having to lay the hair on a little at a time. It sticks to your fingers and get's everytwhere, yuk...

If I wasn't so imapatient, I would have molded and cast this and punched the hair. Would have been better.

Anyway, I have another batch of hair on the way, and don't wanna take pics in his semi-bald state, so I should have some updated images in a few days.

Love werewolves!!! Looking great but the teeth need to be narrowed a bit I think, they look too thick to me. Takes away from the menacing snarl look...:)

Great job so far!

Thanks darkside for that great bit of advice, you were totally right.:thumbsup

I pulled out a bunch of the hair and reworked the teeth today - and almost entirely re-did the lower jaw and gum too.

This is still in a rough form, the new teeth need smoothed and refined, also built up in places (particularly on the upper set) but already the whole thing looks much better:

Please ignore the super white (make that super fast) white paintjob on the new teeth - it's just there to see which areas I need to work on.

This is truly the sculpt that won't end - everytime I think I'm done, I see something else that needs changed...:lol

Having said that, any other thoughts would be much appreciated.

This is what would happen if it were in my house:

Ok, so I'm real hungry and it's late at night... ..so I walk downstairs to get some food, and then I see this looking at me. I freak out run back upstairs in record time and then can't sleep ever again.

LOOKS GREAT!!!!!

Thanks! I think it's getting there, slowly but surely.

I worked on the teeth and lower jaw areas some more and have added a few layers of hair. The hair isn't anywhere near finished yet, it reminds me of Elvis a bit at the moment lol. It'll look a lot better once the top layer is added and the hairline is done.

Also, still no glass eyes! I hope they will arrive tomorrow...

Thanks mate!

I did a bit more painting, hairing and so on tonight, he's almost done now really - apart from the glass eyes that is!

It's hard to get a decent photo with the flash on, so once he's all finished up I'll take a couple in the garden in natural light.

Cheers!

If you guys are tired of me posting progress pics, just let me know.

But I couldn't resist posting these pics of my daughter next to almost-done wolfie:

:lol

My girl loves making props - she always watching me making stuff and helping out, a future RPFer in the making for sure!

The wolf's hairline still isn't done and no glass eyes today! I have emailed the company asking where they are, should've been here by now...

It's actually looking quite cool, hanging there on the wall. Gonna do a wood backing for it like old style taxidermy prey?

Seeing just the head like that it could easily work as a bipedal wolfman head.

I have two display ideas;

The first one is a piece of wall from 'The Slaughtered Lamb' with the pentagle behind the wolf head and a melted candle either side, like in the film.

The seond is a window pane that the wolf in smashing through, paw coming over the sill, with a full moon sky in the background and backlit...

Just ideas at this stage, but I like the second one.

Al, that turned out brilliantly, great sculpt, its gonna rock with the glass eyes. If only you'd moulded that bad boy, would have loved a cast to go with my wampa wolf head.

Thanks me old mate - I did think about molding it and making a few casts, but I didn't know if there would be any interest?

Dunno - still possible I guess, I could strip it apart and make a silicone mold. Maybe offer it as a kit.

Most of the things I make are one off pieces - so I usually work towards just making a single thing I want myself, just for personal satisfaction and skill-building.

Unfortunately that also means I have probably missed out on a bit of hobby cash over the years, as I have made and sold a lot of one off pieces without molding them!

Al

if you can get it apart and cast it, I would, as im sure there will be a lot of interest its a great sculpt of the best movie werewolf imo.

Thanks mate.

Glass eyes are IN - paint and hair nearly finished, just waiting on stuff to dry before finishing it all off:

I've started work on the final display too. I'm making a fake window that the wolf is smashing through, with a full moon sky in the background, backlit. I hope it will turn out ok.

For a cool effect you could have added a dim yellow light in each pupil of the eyes to simulate that eerie light reflection, or tried to replicate the effect with a tiny round mirror. That would really sell it, imo. But is perhaps way too late to consider such at this point.

Not to mention the eyes already look fantastic :love

Thanks guys - the light behind the eyes idea is an interesting one. It could still be done if I feed some white or yellow LED's in behind the eyes from the back of the head and hook them up to the backlighting I already have planned for the window display.

Not sure how it would look? Interesting idea!
