I found that the G-8 flight jacket has the arm gussets.

Although a lot of the elements of the G-8 seem to match like the gussets on the sleeve, body length, and general cut, there are other elements like seams, arm swing panels and other panels on the back that are not matching the on screen jacket.

They could have used some elements of various jackets to make final jacket. Maybe what looked better on the actor. I’m just thinking off the top of my head wondering how this jacket came to be.

I talked to my contact who works on various LFL shows to run my idea about the possibility that the show contracted the jacket(s) to a company that makes custom leather flight jackets. This person said the idea is plausible but they highly doubted it as they have so many talented people at their disposal on the payroll. Unfortunately this person did not know anyone who could provide more info.

In the end, I guess it really doesn’t matter other than the trivia of it all.

I hope I am not boring people with my speculations and random thoughts. I find that these day, my interest in props and costumes tend to focus a lot in the how and why of their design, production. I know some are simply interested in the end result and how to replicate that.

I guess since I am just so captivated by these jackets and with the lack of new information, I am looking for any reason to continue talking about them.

My newest pondering is wondering how many of the leather flight jackets we see are custom along with if all patches were created. Right now all we only know is that Teva’s jacket was custom. The actor mentioned that all other jackets are different but I do not believe it was stated if any more were customs.

Since Teva is the only pilot that gets any direct screen time, it is plausible his jacket was the only custom. If anyone else has custom jackets, it could be the other follow director in the scene playing pilots. They could be custom or off the rack with mods as needed. It seems like the one pilot walking outside on the base is wearing a regular G1 complete with button holes not buttoned at the pockets. Not something I would expect from a custom made jacket for the SWU.

I also wonder how many of the patches on the jackets are custom and how many might be found existing patches (official or fan made) knowing that most of these were not going to be clearly visible on screen.

Seeing how the others are director's and producers they are probably custom made as well.

Spotted that yesterday.

I like how it says leather jacket in the title but in the description it says PU leather.

PU leather, or Polyurethane leather, is made by coating a backing fabric such as polyester with a flexible polymer and then treating it to look more like animal hide.

They were not trying to replicate it, simply use the animated version as inspiration. They also threw some scout trooper pistol influencers as well. The base is the same webley air pistol casting used for the Obi Wan series blaster.

My first impression is it might be something with wings by it could be a V modification.

Someone I know at LFL came up with a helmet symbol guide that explains what the various markings like what the V symbol meant but it was rejected. I am guessing they didn’t want the fans to scrutinize why or why not certain characters had the marking they did on their helmet.

Colors are probably wrong.

I got a feeling we are not going to see that jacket past the first episode. Once she cuts her hair and re-dons her armor, that’s it for the jacket.
