Let's talk Mandalorian Era New Republic Flight Jackets

Didnt Luke wear a flighty type jacket for the Medal Ceremony?

Since it shares attributes with the Hoth jacket. I always felt an augment could be made that it was a flight jack although it might be a civilian style like Ponda Baba.

I think the big deal here is that it is the first canon appearance of a tradition leather flight jacket complete with patches. As mentioned prior, one or more of Poe’s jacket might have been a flight jacket but since he never wore it with flight gear, we can only speculate.

I have been keeping these on my watchlist for years now. Never pulled the trigger.

These have a lot of the elements of the cloth jacket used for Luke’s ceremonial jacket. And in turn, had a lot of detail similarities to the cold weather Flight jacket seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

My thinking is to modified similar to the ceremonial jacket. Using trim or other elements to cover pockets. Remove or cover zipper and other fasteners. Get some custom made painted leather patches on the front and sleeves. Along with rank and SWU style ID chest badge. I’d also get a large patch or direct paint application of some SWU influenced nose art type image.
Took the plunge, ordered the cafe jacket with ribbing. I've got a couple patches already but I'm needing some more designs to ponder on.

Let me know what you think and how it fits. I was scoping out the Etsy stores that do custom patches. Most look like laser engraving style which makes sense as it makes it more affordable for a single design. I’d still like to find someone willing to hand paint or some other color option other than embroidery.

Roger that, will do. I had a twilight company patch done a few years back, and have one of the republic patches. I just ordered these;

and I'm having a concept Phoenix squadron patch put together, should have the proof in a week or two. Not a fan of using the PVC Wolf pack patch for the jacket but we'll see how it turns out.

What are you planning to do to hide/remove the zips?
On the waist pockets I'm just going to remove them, I "might" use a button on the lowers and sew a tab on the uppers just have it secure but I'm leaning against it as I don't think it would in universe enough. Or maybe a flap with sewn in magnets? On the breast pockets, one will be covered with a nameplate/tape type patch and/or a rank greeblie or maybe even a patch. The other side I was thinking a magnet strip behind the pocket lip and seam.

I love the PVC patches. I have a bunch from that store. I bought these plus about 12 others that I gave to my kids as stocking stuffers because he sells a group as part of a flawed grab bag. I yet to see the flaws.

I love 'em too, I just wanted to keep the jacket with the embroidered type. But thinking about it, if I use an air crew type name plate to cover the upper pocket, PVC might be the answer and it wouldn't look odd with another PVC patch;)

I've seen pix of the clone troopers having pin-ups on their ships and posters in their barracks. ;)

I have a Varga Girl on the back of my Aliens armor.

There were several instances in The Clone Wars were the Republic gun ships have nose art.

just curiosity because we are talking about pilot jackets...
Nobody remember Fixer using a 1970 bomber MA-1 jacket???
I would consider the jacket Biggs is wearing an off duty or casual pilot jacket as well similar to Luke's in ANH. Not really a fan of white though...

Pretty sure they meant the blue-grey one in the middle, which is certainly close enough to a bomber jacket to have started fights in a 1990's Edmonton punk bar (where "bomber" jackets were worn by skinheads and "biker" jackets were worn by SHARPS and Goths, and the two groups did not like each other).

Yep, got that. I was referring to Biggs jackect and the similarities with Luke's that we discussed earlier in the thread.
