Leia TROS lightsaber

As many of you saw in the other thread, I started a Leia Saber model. When I first started that model, I had one very dark blurry image to work from. Since then we now have 5 or 6 dark blurry images to work from. lol

I was not pleased with my previous model after I printed the prototype. It was very thick and the proportions seemed way off. So, the other night when I got bored, I decided to start over. I studied the references, enhanced them in photoshop the best I could to figure out some details and spent about 4 hours remodeling the entire saber. I am hoping we get better images soon.

I am working with Anakin Starkiller to get this saber released. Details of this collaboration will come when they are hashed out further.

Hope you like it.

I have to say, I'm still not a huge fan of this design, but I like it a lot more when it looks slimmer. That was part of my problem, it looked so thick and awkward in the movie

Can you post your reference pictures from the movie? I would like to see them again, I thought they had already been posted here but looks like you restarted your thread

I don’t have them on my phone. But they are in multiple threads now. I had posted my original model in the thread that was started by rockbottom. But I figured I’d start my own since I didn’t want to hijack his thread about all the sabers in tros.

I’ll post a few of the references when I get to my computer later.

So it has been a while. Had to take a break from this project to remodel a kitchen and then worked on upgrading my 3D printer and now that all of those are done I was able to work on this again.

I dug through some hi res screen shots and set off to make numerous changes to my v2 model. Tried all kinds of things, some did not work out, so I scrapped a few versions before I finally liked the changes/path I was headed.

Please let me know what you all think of the Leia-tros lightsaber v5.

I still have some cleanup to do but I was so excited to share it with everyone.

Really great work! Looking over this image:

The switch area looks off. The base doesn't look like it hits at 90 degrees. On your model, the bottom is parallel with the sides of the saber, but there's some kind of taper or angle on the real thing. It almost looks like the saber body is tapered in that spot, but the sides don't look like it. Maybe the switch housing is tapered somehow?

I'm also of the opinion that there's a groove or chamfer between each of the rings, and that the lower silver ring above the grips is wider than the corresponding ring below the switch:

you are correct on the box taper, and the "triple rings" having grooves between them. It is an artifact of the lathing bit taking a nip out of the join between each ring. (My suspicion is 40 degree on each side due to an 80-degree lathing bit being used).

the widths of each are something I am also still working on for accuracy since that is tougher to get perfectly correct due to perspective and focal length skew on the photos.

Just me offering some advice as I also am working on this design.

Thank you all for your advice. I did have chamfers but they were hard to see in the images i posted. I went through and made some changes to them and to the button and a few other things.

Still trying to get better images of the saber. there are a few spots that id like to nail down better. Again, thanks for the feedback. keep it coming.

New video and images were made available today. So, I spent some time making a few changes to my model. Changed the button completely. Modified the emitter ribs and center post. Changed the windvane a bit. Everything else was only minor changes. Next up D-ring and the belt clip. Then it should be done.
