Ladies can be Iron Man too (everything but the shoulders, pg 35)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

I feel your pain, I too have rebuilt several parts of my suit thus far, and there are some days I want to just throw in the towel, but if there is one thing that keeps me motivated is the members of the RPF, so glad your back on this and we are all here for you !

Thanks so much! I figured the very worst thing I could do is give up on it entirely. I may take a long long time, but I try to finish things! Thank you for the support :]

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

I'd actually wondered if anyone had ever done an Iron Woman costume yet. Kudos to you Laam! You go girl. I'm anxious to see how it comes out!

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

The helmet looks amazing so far, and I know that bondo sanding is a daunting task...

I haven't jumped into the Pep world but whenever it thaws out up here I might give it a try. I tend to start projects and never finish them though (my 6 year Jawa build for example. :lol)

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

have some really really icky looking progress. I hate when you spend hours on something and it ends up looking the same or worse because it's in a transitional phase.

and thanks for the comments, guys

I think unfinished (Or slow moving) projects is how you know you are part of the RPF.

That helmet atm has a kind of bone-y look to it, almost skull like, especially the jaw area, almost like it was grown. Slap some eggshell and beige paints on it, sand the edges down until they are round, add a few cracks and growthh lines, install glass eyeballs into the sockets, voilá ! Creepy halloween "bone man" !

Amanda, keep on truckin´, finish that sucka for all those can´ts out there!

In all seriousness if I ever manage to finish this thing and pop out a few resin casts of it, a skull is a really neat repaint idea!

I think unfinished (Or slow moving) projects is how you know you are part of the RPF.

That's the truth. Has anyone EVER finished a pair of those Jurassic Park NVGs??

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (kinda pic heavy)

Haha, maybe one day. I'm a bit of a costume novice. I can sew on patches and move pockets around but I've never done anything from scratch, so I'm going to try and master using a sewing machine before I move onto things like resin and fibreglass!
Just a note-it's not the sewing machine you need to master, just reading a pattern! I took a night school course on sewing, and now I'm pretty good at it. I know how you feel, I admire these others from a distance as well, but I am going to do IM come Hell or high water this year!

I totally understand the transitional phase thing. There were definitely a lot of times I got really discouraged because I would spend hours and end up in a worse position than a week earlier (at least that's what it seemed like at the time). Trying to post my progress here on the RPF has helped me a lot with sticking with it though.

Looking forward to more progress, especially the actual suit.

Yesterday's link is messed up.

I might be mistaken, but I think there are females of every major comic book hero.

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

Great Piece, def going to get into making the Ironman suit later down the road.

Re: Ladies can be Iron Man too (brand new start, page 24)

I'm starting a foam Iron Man build soon for a ladyvengers cosplay and was pretty intimidated by the idea of pepping/fiberglassing/bondoing a helmet until I found your thread; we seem to be starting from the same mostly-sewing background and yours looks great so far, which is definitely reassuring.

You mentioned scaling your pieces; are you still working from normal pep files or are you using one meant for foam? I'm making mock-up pep parts of my pieces right now and as soon as the piece is long enough for my arm/leg/whatever, it's ridiculously big (I can fit both my arms into part of one of the forearm pieces, damn you scrawny girl arms). Are you slimming down the design to compensate for that at all or were you just planning on shoving more padding in there and not worrying about it?

You and me both! I'm starting to wonder if that foam is coming at all.

One of us. One of us.

You know, I'm not quite sure yet. I've made a few mock pieces in pep and to get them to fit right you have to make them way too short, you're right. Follow the thread and I'll address this more when it comes down to it. Good luck with yours!

I put a ton of hours in today (with little to show for it). Just waiting for the primer to dry and I'll have the picture up.

You know, It's just foam. Don't be afraid to modify the part once it's built.

if the part is the right length but is too big on you in terms of "bulk"

why not cut a slit out of it and slim it down?
You can just reglue it back together in the end.

I hope you get what I mean

good luck.

Good point, Stealth, thanks for that!

And here's where the helmet stands as of now.
