Kylo Ren Saber hollow hilt for electronics

Is there anyone on this thread who could do a slightly modified version in stainless steel or perhaps a strengthened aluminium? ...I'm not big on the materials side of things, but I'm guessing a CNC-milling (or similar) solution could achieve this from the v5 files being discussed?

I'm after something of an "as new" version of Kylo's hilt. This would omit the gaping hole in the side and have a cleaned-up conduit or recess for the red wiring (or omit it completely). The idea is pretty clear in my head, but I'd seek either a seasoned 3D modelling guru to realise it, or have a stab myself (I have some experience using 3D Studio Max and Blender).

The big blocker though is getting it made in something: A. Durable, B. Heavy & C. Convertible to a "functioning", battle-ready, 'saber (sound, lights, blades, etc.).

...I've got my eyes on some pricey Graflex TFA kits and ready-made options out there too, but I fancy making this particular project something a little more personal. I really love the design, but I'd like it in a cleaner finish, maybe tweaked to be a little sleeker too.

:)

Check out Korbanth's "Crossguard" saber in the project runs. It's made of metal, I think aluminum, can have light and sound added, and is missing the hole in the side. So it sounds like exactly what you want.

I'm working with Gustavo right now to get these V5 hilts CNC machined.

So if you're interested, stay tuned. Please no PM's just yet about it. I will open up a thread when it is time.

I absolutely knew this would happen after I throw down for the 3d print on Shapeways.

Ah, I was wondering what was going on. Sucks that he's having problems here. I hope he becomes active here again someday. Thanks for the info.

He still active on Twitter for sure. Sent his link to someone secondth of January.

So it's apparent something pissed him off here.

Can someone just emailed me version 5 ? When I say stainless I'm thinking of converting the file into mesh. And machine it in stainless

Here's the 16AWG speaker wire I mentioned earlier with the V5 print.

And compared to the wire on the Hasbro FX version:

I think it looks close; although I think a little too thick. Probably 18AWG would be perfect, but haven't found a transparent red wire that size yet.

Anyone tried to install a sliding switch on any of Gustavo's hilts? I'm debating on if I want a sliding or latching switch. My only complaint about the latching switch is that when my son and I were playing around with his toy lightsabers, we both kept hitting the switches by accident. I don't plan on dealing with my built saber, but I want it as movie-accurate as possible, and I haven't figured out which is used on screen.
