Kylo Ren Saber hollow hilt for electronics

Yeah, I guess that selling that kind of item is borderline legal (or maybe even across that border) as is most of the work done here, actually...
Anyways I plan to print on my own printer, and for my own costume, if I ever get the files... maybe they reach pm box somehow... who knows!
I'm a disaster at creating models, and I will never get such a perfect result... not even in 1000 years.

Awesome! that would be great! would certainly be simpler than finding small really bright LEDS and a way to keep them cool LOL

Ok, I stand slightly corrected... the glow stick's external housing doesn't quite fit in the printed saber, even with it sanded down an extreme amount. However! The little battery/LED housing inside pops out as one piece just fine:

It would be very simple to add a switch on leads to the module.

LED module and glowstick tube fit into the saber with room to spare:

Oh, also something that I thought was kinda neat. When I printed the upper part of the saber, I did it upside down to reduce the amount of support material needed. The ends of the side blades warped a bit, giving them somewhat the droopy appearance that the prop on display at Celebration had :)

Cool! do you still twist to turn them on? I wonder if they would fit inside the printed side blades? and you said these are the $1.99 LED Glow sticks at Target right? I would guess found near the camping supplies? My saber is done except for a solution for the side blades so I'm going to go and find some of these tomorrow for sure!

guabe;

I wonder how you lit your side blades? I didn't think you did anything except just having the main 3LED setup inside?

The glowstick originally lit up by turning the wand part, which pressed the little battery/LED module against the base of the grip. A little spring contact would be compressed which completes the circuit -- so without that housing no more twisting to turn on (in the lit photo I am pressing the blade into the handle, which in turn compresses the contact on the LED module).

Possibly you could work some threading into the printed saber's side emitters to retain the twist-on... The best thing I think would be to bend the spring contact to always be in contact with the circuit, then cut one of the LED leads, and add a switch in-line. I'm not sure how those FX saber boards mentioned earlier in the thread are set up; maybe they have some accessory switches built in?

I don't know the printed side blades work but I was just planning to use the glowstick's translucent tube. It's durable and pretty much the right size. And yes, on the camping aisle in the wire bins!

E Williams thanks for recommending the LED glow sticks, I was able to mod them so that they work with my printed side blades! Twist inward on them once the blade is in the side emitters and bam their on! Here are a few pics of the completed saber :D

last image taken in a dark room the rest where with the lights on.

has anyone considered lightpipes/FO to redirect some of the main beam LED light ?

I would be surprised if it worked, the LEDS for the main blade are under a focusing lens and the blade has diffusion material inside and a small mirror under the end cap to help redirect the light and make it more intense the whole length of the blade. I think the reason the side blades don't light well is the only light they are getting is basically an ambient glow. If you try it and it works I would be happy to be wrong!! :)
