Re: Kylo Ren Helmet Sculpt - (Old School WIP)
Just a quick update... Mold started yesterday... Should be able to do the first cast in 2 weeks...
Now to a question I was recently PMed concerning painting up helmets.... I'll post the question here so that everyone here can help out with some good advice. Here's the question...
"
I'm guessing you will be painting your own helmet...any chance you will document what you do?.... I've never been gutsy enough to try and colorize or weather my trooper armor.
I've painted before, but I'm not too proud to ask for assistance, especially about primer on new plastic if needed or the best brand of paint. Chrome spray if done without drips is easy enough, but I'm guessing you would cover the entire helmet with a black color, so I want to use the best paint possible, and I'm sure you have the experience! Or...point me in the direction of a general "here is a good helmet guide" link, that would work too. There are a lot of guides, I'd be interested in the one you recommend for your helmet."
So this was the question. Here is my answer... First of all, yes, I will be documenting my paint up here on this thread. Second, I'm totally inexperienced in this field! Haha! (That's why I'm asking all of you for your input as well) ... If anyone has any recommendations to links or advice, please feel free to post it here.
There are many ways to go about a paint up on a helmet. It really depends on what your after as far as a finished look, and what your familiar with using or feel confident enough to use. Some like to use spray paint, others airbrush, others model paints, others acrylics... and so on. So which medium do you prefer?... Personally, I'm an old school artist. I'll be using Acylics. I will show on this thread the brands I use, and the techniques I use to achieve my paint up. This does not mean that this is the ONLY way to achieve this, it will be just my way. I have only every painted one other helmet, which is my Boba Fett helmet I got from Bobamaker. I did it using Acylics and brushes. Here it is...
So everyone, share your favorite way to achieve a solid paint up!
