Kylo Ren cross section reveal saber

Hi guys!

I'm very proud to show you guys what I've been building over these past few weeks.
Here's my version of the Kylo Ren cross section saber as seen in the The Force Awakens visual dictionary.

This project all started when my copy of the book arrived and a few days later, I spotted one of those hasbro saber builder Kylo Ren toys. It struck me how accurate and great in size these toys were so I picked one up.
Hours of dremeling and sanding later, I had a nice shell to go and work with.

I machined most of the parts myself from aluminium and brass, salvaged some from old plumber equipement and 3D-printed a new pommel piece and PCB-chassis for the soundboard.

The saber has a Nano Biscotte v3 soundboard and the crystal is lit with a RGB highpowered LED wired for red.
I wanted to make it as accurate to the books image as possible.

Here's some pictures:

And I also made a small video of the saber in action:

That's seriously cool. Really impressive!

When I first saw the illustration I considered trying to do something like this but quickly backed out realising I didn't have the time, patience or tools to do such a thing. Really inspiring to see it done elsewhere and to such a quality result too.

:thumbsup

Thanks for the kind words! It was a real endavour but it turned out pritty good in the end

Thank you. I machined the ribs out of a piece of solid brass rod. A lot of work, but in the end it gives the right effect and a nice realistic weight to the saber.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking to do! Thank you so much for showing that this kind of creation/conversion can be done. I was beginning to think this idea couldn't be. I myself am looking into doing this. Are there any pointers/tips or templates that you can recommend for my own build, or maybe even a step by step process on how you did this? The best I could do about machining the individual parts is to hope I can get it done at a local hardware store, or order one pre-cut already. Any help would be awesome.
