Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

BUMP ^

Marking my place in line!

haha close but not that close to a run here's what happens next:

  • Await deliver of the face plate from shapeways
  • Debate with my casting buddy the best way to capture all the details in the fewest parts as currently it's looking like a tonne of parts but hey if that's how it has to be that's how it has to be haha
  • Give the faceplate ridges a final lap with 3000->7000 grit (and maybe steel wool the grooves to take away on grit from the Sintering
  • Bondo the dome sand the dome bondo the dome sand the dome .. .. ad infinium
  • Bond any parts that will be together permanently dome/face plate etc
  • Spray everything Flay grey as a final detail check
  • Seal Holes & Create a edge rim with card
  • Begin to Mold
  • Clean-up Mold
  • Check & Share shots ^^

so there is a little more to go yet !! will also prepare to pay for 1 metric tonne of silicone haha

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

A+ so far! Would jump on a run of this as well! Keep it going and have fun!

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

thanks @Sync !!

Few small updates today began adding damage to the faceplate :

marked up from a few different angled shots:

after a bit of gouging and sanding with 1200 grit we're set ! (taken at an angle as it's all the same colour currently and doesn't show well on a front shot):

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

So awesome! I just finished a Kylo ren costume and "mask" for my nine year old. He wanted It Finished In Time For A Minor league baseball game that hosted a Star Wars night last night. Some of the local 501st costume Garrison comes every year and he really digs Kylo Ren. I'd be happy to post a few pics of it if you'd be interested in seeing it. I ended up using a toy Ironman mask Of all things as a base and tried to come as close as I could to The essence of Ren. I added some "blades" to a 3d printed Ren hilt that we also painted and aged. My son was a hit! He had a blast.

absolutely i'd love to see it !!

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

Had only two weeks to complete. Used toy Ironman mask as a base, then added "chrome" adhesive sheet patterns onto the cheeks and top of mask. Not entirely accurate by any means, but close enough for my nine year old. He had a brown Jedi robe that I tried to dye black, but had problems getting it dark enough. used some black vinyl on the outer layer mask and on the belt (from wifes closet). and used a little EVA foam on the inner layer mask for some smaller details. my son and I painted and aged the 3d printed lightsaber hilt we ordered online, and used some found objects for "blades" which I hot glued into place. the main blade had to be held in additionally with a few set screws for durability. overall he loved being the only Kylo Ren in the area. thanks for letting me share! I cant wait until all of your work on the mask and helmet are complete and for sale. I will be following your progress:)

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

The damage details...wow. Really shows just how close to the actual helmet you are getting. And yet you say there is a lot left to do...blown away....

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED

So after seeing master EDI's fantastic helmet i have to admit the extra details really blew me away so i had to make a mod

I've gotta say... I like this dome a lot better. I'm also glad I'm not the only one around here who gets inspired to upgrade my stuff when I see other people knock their versions out of the park! ;)

Re: Kylo Ren: 3D Helmet COMPLETED
