Hi Guys, For a while ive been toying with the idea of making an ironman display because im such a fan. I DID Start making an entire Mark 42 suit, but there are so many floating around now, the novelty kind of wore off for me. But ive decided to do something different.

My idea is to make multiple different helmets and then the display case to hold them all.

Planned Helmets:
Mark 42 - Extremis - (gimpee)
Mark 39 - Gemini - (JTM)
Mark 40 - Shotgun - (BSD)
Mark 37 - Hammerhead - (v2 will be BSD)
Mark 17 - Heartbreaker - (parachristo, simplified by me)
Mark 38 - Igor - (BSD)
Mark 33 - Centurion - (Balmung)
Mark 6 - Upgrade - (JTM)
Mark 1 - Prototype - (Cant remember name - if anyone knows it please tell me, its the only paper unfold on the forum)
Mark 35 - Snapper - (BSD/imortal2010 are working on it)
Mark 22 - Hot Rod - (deathgrey MAYBE, im working on a low poly unfold)

I Will not start the bondo phase on the helmets until I have a decent amount pepped and fiberglassed, I believe it will just all go quicker that way.
This thread will show my progress as I make the helmets planned.

Please feel free to comment and post tips etc, everything is welcomed
Here is where I am at at the moment.

(Mark 39 - Gemini, Mark 37 - Hammerhead, Mark 42 - Prehensile)

P.S - if anyone knows where I can find a good paper Heartbreaker file, or Red snapper pep file, please let me know)

Updates on each Helmet to follow (Pic Heavy)

hey buddy that hammerhead looks awsome were did you get that file ? and parachristo has an awsome mk 17 heartbreaker helmet on his thread :)

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Thread

streetsoul - Thankyou, the hammerhead file is from a friend, ill Pm you the name, as I doubt he wants it widespread. but Ive drawn on a lot of the details and will probably sort something out with it on the bondo stage.

Yeah I have that file, and atm I am looking at it and im like.... WTH?! it looks like EXPERT level peping, I don't suppose you have a simplified one?

Mark 42 Progress:

This was technically my first pep build, as I learnt from a failed Mark 7 build.

20130520_074835.jpg20130520_075400.jpg20130522_235949.jpg20130523_000003.jpg20130525_190055.jpg

Original pep, with coat of resin, few imperfections, and I wasn't happy with the ears so I made a new pair and left the back off, attaching the pictured part straight onto the helmet with the tabs

20130521_192933.jpg

The cracks start to appear :p - Luckily this massive gap was sorted out by a single cut and bulldog clips

20130530_155650.jpg20130530_160428.jpg

I noticed some things that I didn't like on the original faceplate, such as the grooves above the eyes, and the air intakes at the top of the faceplate, so Faceplate mark 2 appeared.

20130529_182650.jpg20130604_194840.jpg

Side to side comparison before and after resin coat

20130531_155806.jpg20130531_155814.jpg20130531_155820.jpg

Faceplate 2.0 on the helmet before resin. I am much happier with this new attachment. I do know the top of the helmet (air intake) is slightly wrong, but it doesn't bother me too much

20130531_162626.jpg

After coat of fiberglass the helmet and 2nd faceplate lie in wait for the rest to catch up.

Mark 39 Progress:

20130608_005018.jpg

All great helmets have an exploded view ;)

20130608_190901.jpg20130608_195450.jpg20130608_195456(0).jpg20130608_195514.jpg

Just a completed pep view, very nice and easy to pep file, I left out a few small pieces to simplify the build.

20130608_190909.jpg

The helmet in comparison to the Mark 42 helmet.

As it stands at the moment, the Gemini has 1 coat of resin on the outside and inside and will be fiberglass-ed this weekend (hopefully)

Mark 37 Progress: - Updated

20130615_002206.jpg

This is where it all begins...

20130615_202728.jpg20130615_202743.jpg20130615_202752.jpg20130615_202805.jpg20130615_202820.jpg

I literally built this helmet this morning, so not much progress, but will be resin-ed and Hopefully fiberglass-ed at the weekend with the Gemini

A Lot of the details have been sketched on, and I will upload a few photos of those in a moment (excuse my poor penmanship, I hadn't drawn in a while)

20130615_225801.jpg20130615_225811.jpg20130615_225833.jpg20130615_225841.jpg20130615_225933.jpg20130615_225944.jpg20130615_225953.jpg20130615_230005.jpg

Personal favourite is the chin I drew on - Once I get to the bondo stage, will engrave the detail shown.

Mark 40 Progress:

20130610_001641.jpg

Here we are once again....

20130611_000428.jpg20130611_000433.jpg20130611_000440.jpg

The faceplate I am very happy with how this turned out. I slightly simplified it from the original pep file.

20130615_224642.jpg

Since I had some time free I decided to carry on, and make half the chin section, again slightly simplifying it.

Update 16/06

Just finished pepping the Shotgun helmet this morning. I have not done the ears, because I wasn't in the right mood for tiny thin pieces.

20130616_113028.jpg20130616_113032.jpg20130616_113036.jpg

I also simplified the sides slightly so I didn't need to put in the thinnest walls id encountered in a while.

20130616_113120.jpg

However simplifying it also has its drawbacks, this will be fixed at bondo stage

20130616_113050.jpg

Well all in all, im incredible happy with how this turned out, and its also the only helmet I can slip on straight away

Mark 7 - failed attempt - basically my practice run

I thought id post this, as a skill tracker, as I believe it shows some progress from the mark 7 to the 42 builds

View attachment 198186View attachment 198187View attachment 198188View attachment 198189View attachment 198190View attachment 198191

For my first pep build, I was quite impressed with myself, there were still imperfections, like the middle of the eyes, and the part on one side was wrong, and the scoop at the top of the helmet too.... just a few

20130513_214804.jpg20130515_075300.jpg

After Resin Coats and a couple layers of fiberglass - still going pretty decent, could have been saved at this point.

20130516_001348.jpg20130516_001408.jpg20130516_001415.jpg

And this is where it REALLY started to go wrong, was my first time with body filler, and I didn't have a clue tbh. I slathered the thing (as you can probably tell) and spent ages sanding it down before realising it wasn't worth it.

I will be redo-ing this helmet. either as a Mark 7 or a Mark 6, depends which I think will be better.

looks gd tbh buddy but if you do rebuild it then you should try omarbous file its realy accurate pal

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Thread

Looking good Kryro, looking forward to your displays! Quite interested to see how your Hammerhead will turn out when all the details are added on at the end!

Also, streetsoul, I've tried looking for omarbous' MK7 files, but I can't seem to find them? Tried searching his user name on here but his not a member? Any ideas where I could find the file? Thanks!

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Thread

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this :)

While the suits show style and function I like to think the helmets have the personality.

Keep up the hard work and I'm sure you'll end up with a collection you can be proud of :thumbsup

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Thread

Thank you guys :D
streetsoul - thanks, but there are imperfections that I havnt photographed, one of the sides is warped out of symetery and the left ear socket is just wrong, I couldn't continue just due to "OCD" - and yes I have this file, It does look brilliant, and slightly easier too
Madosheet - Thanks, I think because it is the least detail when pepped I think ill add the most detail to it later, such as metal, screws, lights, and rivets etc
@AerialInk - Yes omg, someone has my thoughts, the helmets show so much more versatility and style than the suits do

-----------------------------------------

Shotgun has been updated, with pictures of it fitted on too :D

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Shotgun Added!

looking class man, just wondering for Gemini what sort of simplifing did you do? I'm thinking of using it as a base for the MKIII Space armour/GodKiller as it has similar understructure and jaw

Re: Kryro's Ironman Helmet Display - Shotgun Added!

Ciano930 - It was just simplifying in Pepakura designer by joining edges that wernt already joined. Which is what im doing at the moment with the Heartbreaker. - I was just trying to make it a quicker build.

From what I remember about the godkiller, you could scale up the helmet and then pep the top half to use that as the mask over the mask, then maybe the extremis helmet scaled slightly smaller than the top mask

that's what the god killer is looking like in my mind, but ive only seen it a couple times
