Hey gang,
I was just recently gifted a Cool Models (yea, them) Korben pistol and wanted to know if anyone ;
a) has expererience converting this to an accurate prop
B) has any reference photos
c) has succeded in lihgting such a thick peice of cheap resin
d) what was the source of their copy(we all know they are proud recasters)
Thanks in advance..
I've been wanting to add this gun to my collection this gun since 97' so any help makes me one grateful builder..

a) Can't be done, it's not very accurate, based on screen shots from the movie it was the best available for a while.
d) It's a recast directly from Dean Dymerski's (sp?) sculpt.

There's nothing 'cool' about cool models.

I made the mistake of buying an item from him before this forum and before I knew what his deal was - I'm the only one that left him a neg actually.
Best advice is to throw your Korben Dallas pistol in the trash and find a cast of an actual prop from someone else...

That's what I thought, but I'm pretty ahndy with a dremel, so I may just hang onto it to do a build. Thanks for letting me know the source. Is he still around? I may make some casts of this once everything's been tron apart and would like to clear it with him (making sure everything has deviated enough, etc.)

Also, what's the source gun? Any clues to that?

The original gun? South African piece -- Vektor.

Throw up a pic of what you got. We can tell you in a heartbeat if its Dean's. Dean's is way off by todays accuracy standards, but this is by no means a knock on his work. As mentioned, it was pretty damn good for the time, based on what was available as reference.

In my opinion, casting your recast is a bad idea based on a bad idea. Dean's work (and the work of another member that resulted in a pretty accurate version) should be respected regardless of what's in the pipes, or how old and inaccurate the item is. In fact, I have a copy of Dean's and sort of like it if merely as a piece of RPF history.

No worries, I think I'm gonna junk it and wait for the liscensed replica. Sounds too cool for school . . .
this one will be a nice practice item though.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

If it's the smae gun that I got from AIM I successfully lit it and it turned out pretty nifty. Sadly - it seems none of the pics never made it online except for this rough wiring diagram

When I did that gun I had only one side from a Japanese magazine, made up the rest...no dvds or video back then, as others said not very accurate.. but we can tell if it is mine.

Dean. Great to see you post. You're like a hero to me. the first guy to actually realize the Korben Dallas gun in resin. I'm always talking about your blaster, and how cool it was that you made it from one tiny picture inside a video game, or something like that. totally amazing work for how little reference you had to go on. Keep up the great work dude.

Cris where'd you go for your electronics...?

I think I got a grab bag of the numeric displays at All-Electronics in the Valley? The switches and the other LEDs I had, and the small 6v battery I got at frys.
