Kick Ass costume?

Found this thread via google and decided to join the forum. Is anyone still in the progress of making a Kick-Ass Costume?

I am actually in the progress of making Red Mist... which is almost finished. I will be making Kick-Ass next. I was going to make it out of neoprene but due to it being so expensive I went with something I found at the fabric store instead.

It's actually almost perfect. I don't remember exactly what the fabric was called but my receipt says "Kelly Green Ponte". It was only 6.99 a yard, which pretty much broke the deal considering neoprene's 70-80 bucks a sheet.

I'm looking forward to sharing my progress with everyone! I'd be happy to show you how Red Mist is coming along, as well.

If more people were to research it, I would be all for doing a Kick-Ass costume, but no one seems to care at the moment.
I'd like to be proven wrong though!
Post pics of Red Mist!

so ive never made a replica costume of anything.
im not very creative or anything.
so im just asking
could you possibly take this
Green Spandex Suit - Full Body Spandex Suits - SuperFanSuits.com
cut parts of the face out
get some yellow gloves
some yellow boots.
and somehow get yellow trim on the suit?
im not positive that this could work. its just a suggestion/question.

cheaper web (very freak )
Lycra Spandex Zentai Suits, blue lycra spandex zentai suit

For those of you looking at Zentai suits, let me just warn you. I bought one of those for greenman, from Always Sunny. It's very very tight and very very see-through. So... definitely find something to wear under it. And maybe like, a cup or something. Cause, you know.

Also, Red Mist progress.

I made it a little too small for me. Right now the pit is ripped because I have to try to adjust the seams and such. I could just try to lose weight but that would require actual effort.

The legs are kind of tight, too. The entire costume is like a sauna so I'm hoping letting out the seams in the legs should help with that a bit.

I bought velvet for the cape. I don't know why I did. The more I look at pictures it doesn't look velvet at all. I might try to return it and buy something else. I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

red mist looks great! be good to see it finished!

i'm still thinking of getting a kick ass costume, was going to try and make one, but for all the effort i think i'd rather just buy one :)

my daughter and I loved Kick Ass & I was thinking that for Hit Girl a spandex/lycra purple catsuit and plaid skirt, mask and black cape and then something like a older LBE (load bearing equipment)
just a rough draft outloud
what do ya think?

UH OH....

I still have to add a lot of things. Brass knuckles, for example, which I had on there, but they keep falling off. Still working through things. But so far I love it!

It's become obvious now that I'm the only one posting in this thread!

Anyway for all you guys making kickass costumes, if you know how to sew, I highly recommend this pattern:

KWIK Sew 2335 Men's Wetskin (UV suit) pattern in Sizes: S-M-L-XL

It's amazing. Just cut the front out as one piece (cut on the fold of the fabric) and then cut the back as two pieces, to put the zipper in the back for kickass.

and you get this!

They do. It is a wetsuit, which is why I used a wetsuit pattern. I did not use neoprene, which is what wetsuits are made out of, because it is VERY expensive. Instead I am using ponte, which stretches but is very thick at the same time.

For the stripes, which I am finishing up now (I will post pictures soon), I am using bias tape, which is already folded over and in nice, neat strips. In order to sew them on correctly, the person wearing the costume had to put it on, and I had to pin the stripes to the costume while it was on his body. This was verify difficult because the fabric is very tight, so you should probably get someone you're comfortable with to help you, lol.

For the mask, it was very trial and error. I will try to post a pattern once I'm finished with it. It's basically two sides and a strip down the middle. I haven't sewn the stripes on that yet. I'll make sure I draw out the pattern and everything before posting again.

As for his nightsticks, we used PVC pipes that are only a tad bigger than an inch across. Home Depot sells them precut at a perfect length. We stopped by a performance bike shop and picked up two packages of bar tape. The bar tape was cool because it came with two little plugs for the end of the bike handles. Well since I used two packages of bar tape I got 4 plugs. One for each end of both nightsticks. They fit perfectly. I put them in after wrapping the pvc in the tape, so that it hides the raw edges. I used a strip of belt material from Joann fabrics for the straps at the end. I'll post pictures of them as well. I just am working on this with a deadline so it's hard for me to get to the computer.

EDIT: THE MASK-

Here is a picture of the mask in progress. I am wearing the mask but it is too big for me because it was made for someone else with a larger head. I also ran out of yellow bias tape so the top stripes aren't all there:

Now, here is a pattern explaining how I made it:

Basically, you cut the larger part, part B, on a fold so that there is no center seam. Now there will be a big gap from the eyehole up, because there is no center seam we are putting the seams under where they yellow stripes go, so that they are hidden. That is what the rectangular piece is for, it starts at the top of where the eye hole would be, closing in that gap, and stretches back to the very bottom of the mask in the back. I wrote down the measurements of the mask I made on there, but you might want to measure your head when you make yours. Make sure you make this out of stretchy fabric. Again, I used Ponte. If you are going to use a fabric with more stretch, you will have to take this in a bit, as it will stretch more. Remember it is better to make things bigger than your size than smaller, you can always take a seam in, but not always out.

sorry for the late reply. I was comissioned to do the kick ass suit and my buyer and i discussed that it would look better WITHOUT the mouth hole. I agreed. It also gave a mix of comic book and movie to hopefully please those from both worlds.

as for yellow lines, I have to say those are what MAKES or BREAKS this costume. I spent well over 20 hours total repositioning the lines several times to look better.

Here are some pictures of the finished products:

I did not make Hit Girl, we just met up with her to take some pictures.
