Kick Ass costume?

It is in Baltimore.

As for the cost, I'm going to guess, because I didn't really hang on to any receipts.

The boots are from WalMart, and were about 20-25 bucks.
The nightsticks are two pieces of PVC pre-cut from Home depot at less than a dollar a piece.
They are wrapped in Bike handlebar wrap, which was kind of expensive, I needed two boxes. I think they were like 12 bucks a pack or so. They also came with little end caps which fit perfectly in the pvc.
The handles to the nightsticks are just belt-like material from the fabric store, so that couldn't have been more than a couple bucks.

The holster for the nightsticks is upholstry pleather, just a little piece is all you need, so like a quarter yard was maybe 4 or 5 bucks.

The suit itself, I used this pattern:
KWIK Sew 2335 Men's Wetskin (UV suit) pattern in Sizes: S-M-L-XL
which is ten bucks.

I used ponte as the fabric, which might have been about 5 or 6 bucks a yard at JoAnns. Get a little more than the pattern asks for your size, because you have to make the mask with it.

And then the yellow strips are yellow bias tape, which is a couple bucks a pack, I used close to 5 packs. Depending on your height you may need more or less.

Gloves were also ponte, just because I couldn't find anything else in a short amount of time. I only got about a half yard.

Everything was relatively cheap but it adds up. It might have cost close to 100 bucks. I really don't know for sure cause like I said, I didn't keep any receipts. But I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives for all the things i bought lol..

Very nice!! My girl friend is in the process of making a Hit Girl costume as we speak. I must say, she's doing a hell of a good job. I'm thinking of making a Red Mist costume if I get the opportunity. DukeVendetta, what refernce did you use for the back of the suit, or how did you design it??? All the shots I'm finding have the cape, so I'm left wondering what to do....

I just used what is out there on the internet and improvised. Now that the DVD is out it has some special features and some really nice shots of the costume. I had to remake this costume once because I made it the wrong way and didn't notice till I got a better picture.

ANYWAY to answer your question, the back of mine is similar to the front except the black part on the stomach is not there because where the red dips on the sides just connects in the back. There's a zipper down the middle and the top black part just goes straight across as opposed to the little zig zag.

Because the cape hides it anyway, I wasn't too concerned about the back. But the cape doesn't start until under the collar so keep that in mind.

This is the best pic I have right now, you can only kind of see it:

God I have to remake so much of this costume, it's driving me crazy lol...

Just saw this movie...loved it. I'm surprised there's not more traffic on this thread!

Of course, Hit Girl ruled the film. As a 34 year old guy, I'd still dress as her just for a lark! :lol

I'm putting together a Kick-Ass costume for Dragon*Con. I bought the pattern that dukevendetta recommended, plus 3 yards of kelly green ponte and matching thread. I have a friend at work who said she can put it together for me. I also got the bias tape (1/2" seemed the right width) with matching thread. Target was across the street from JoAnn, so I found a pair of boots as well. I bought 1/4 yard of pleather, but I'm not sure how the holster would go together.

I'm also thinking of adding a couple of inches to the leg length. In most of the photos I've seen, his skin isn't exposed where the suit meets the boots. My inseam is 30 inches, so I hope that works.

The problem with the legs is they ride up. I recommend putting some sort of elastic strap to go under your foot to hold them down. That's what we are adding to our costume.

The holster I basically sewed two sides together and then folded the two edges over so that they met in the back (that way the seam is against your back and no one will see it. Then I cut the holes in the center and attached the rivets. The rivets are actually buttons that snap onto the costume and then I have velco on there too for an extra hold.

Hey fellow Kick-ass fans. I'm glad to see other people have an interest in cosplaying Kick-ass characters. I usually go all-out for costumes, but this year I decided I just wanted to do something simple, but cool. So I decided to go as Kick-ass himself. But since my sewing skills .. don't really exist, and lord knows I don't have the money to create the most accurate costume ever... I decided to take the easy/lazy route and just buy the Basic Party City version of it.

A bit on the pricy side but, it's not bad. I just got the costume in the mail, and like we all know, store bought costumes rarely actually match the picture on the package. This costume sadly is no exception.

The bodysuit actually has great dark colors, but all the yellow threads are only sewn on by one side, so the other half is awkwardly scrunchy and popping up a bit.

The size SMALL is incredibly tight! Even slim guys have to work out a bit for this to fit comfortably.

The gloves are kind of weird. They have five fingers, but the pinky and the thumb aren't exactly specified, it's anyones guess which way they're meant to go on.

The zipper in the back is also something of a problem, it's thin and white, and without help from someone to zip it up, the teeth of the zipper often pull apart if you move too fast.

My big nag is with the mask. This came with a size small? The thing is HUGE! I guess I'll just have to pull the back of the mask tighter and roll it to get it to fit properly.

Just thought I'd share that for anyone else who is curious about this costume. Not the best, but not the worse. But eh, it'll suffice for Halloween, and isn't too hot like a real wet suit might be. I don't think I'm going to do the batons or baton holder on the back just yet.

If anything, this costume is worth getting for someone who might aspire to use this one as a reference for making a better :)

Here's mine. it's not completely accurate (the piping on the bottom of the legs is a bit off and the mask, I'm gonna replace). The pics look kinda fuzzy because I used a grain remover, sorry about that.

Hey guys,
I'm making a Kick-Ass costume for somebody now, and am using the Kwik Sew pattern. I know to cut the front piece on the fold to eliminate the front seam, but how exactly do I do that? For example, would I line up the front with the most outward part of the original crotch seam, or angle it, or just completely eliminate that altogether? Help! :confused

I have made an awesome kick-ass costume. But i really really need your help on how to make the holsters for my sticks? I cant see a photo of them
Im your pics. How did u do it!? Please if you could email me asap. I have a costume/cosplay coming up and id love

Apologies for reviving an old thread but I just received this Kick-Ass costume in the post today:

KICK ASS MOVIE / FILM COSTUME - MEDIUM ADULT SIZE: Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games

And this is what it actually looks like:

However, the main point of this post is just to show some batons me and my friend Alex made (username: AlexVanDort). Here's a pic of them:

The total cost of these batons I would say is about £10 - £15, depending on how you acquire the leather. Luckily, Alex had some spare leather in his house which we used for the handles. The actual batons are just a £3 broom handle from Wilkinsons and the grip is £2.49 replacement grip tape from Sports Soccer. For the straps again Alex had some spare in his house. The top and bottom of the batons still show wood but I'm looking to put something black over those, like some kinda lid or something. Also the gloves I'm wearing are Marigold gloves from Wilkinsons.

I plan on making the back nightstick holsters too, when I get around to it, I'll post some pictures. But for now, here's the suit with the batons:

I got mine from ebay. There's one on there that looks just like the movie, but for a little extra, if you give them your measurements, will built it to fit your body/head perfectly. I can't remember exactly who made mine, but not many people with good suits are on ebay. Should be easy to narrow down. Happy hunting.
