Jurassic Park - Big Velociraptors

I'll be watching this with extreme interest, who knows I might even be tempted to try this myself since my 6 year old brother is such a JP Dinosaur nut.

Here're pics from a couple of weeks back (hadn't been able to upload til now). The eyes are resin cast and are being positioned in these pics. I have made much more progress on the shaping and details since these were taken, and will upload more pictures very soon. ;)

I haven't sculpted something as large but would it be possibe to carve the basic shape from foam and and overlay it with clay?

Yes, that's basically one way of doing an armature. You would have to coat the foam with something to give the clay a better surface to adhere to, such as resin. The armature I did for this has foam sprayed onto a post (post attached to the board), and after a little shaping I coated it with fibreglass. Although my foam shape was more crude and I relied on the clay itself to form the shape.

Oops if I payed attention I would have seen the pic with the redish colored foam what type of foam is it by the way?.

Well, it's been a while, but I had made much more progress on 1/2 scale Raptor busts. Here's some pics of a kit. I have all 4 JP versions just by modifying the head a little. This one came out a bit bubbly as I didn't let the resin settle long enough after shaking the bottle. Anyone want to see them painted up? ;) I'm going to put in glass resin eyes.

Sweet. Always wanted a full scale one. Missed the one for sale a while back from the original molds. Bummed.... This looks great man. Get it painted already..... Please.

I'm considering doing the shoulders and chest area for one too, and painting up some males. ;) I'll do the same for the smaller 1/2 busts too. I think it would look better as a wall mount that way.
