JP mosquito egg/ shiftknob/ the quest for the perfect cane

Great job ! They look beautiful , this is by far the most successful replicas for my opinion and with the advantage of being fully functional is a plus !!!

Material respected , respected size mosquito breeds in closer to the original .

Perfect ;-)

I finished My first set of the new wings. Im not sure they are quite up to snuff, While they are much closer to being screen accurate they look less like real life wings. Gonna do some more tweeking I think..

I take it Zrncic finally succeeded in recasting my mosquito huh? I know he's been trying for a while.

The licensed canes to which I'm referring are being made by Chronicle Collectibles. The cane and top were molded from a surviving, screen used cane.

Isn't Zrncic the same guy who labeled his cryo cans, "Lion FX?" Seen him selling canes on Ebay, too. Is that the person you're talking about?

Not sure about the LionFX name.. I know him under the name SGZ collectibles. He tried getting mosquito "samples" from me. Then threatened I stop making them, when I said no. Claimed he was working on a deal for a Licensed product.. Then followed that by buying multiple amber egg shift knobs from me.. LOL

Like I said, the license holder is Chronicle Collectibles, but it wouldn't be odd for a replica company to offer exclusives or sell entire runs to a single company or individual. I didn't get that far into it. Just heard the product was coming. No idea of how they'll be offered or through whom.

Regardless, this individual (SGZ) does not hold the license. If we're talking about the same person, they sell cryos all day long like everyone else. Odd you were threatened when a simple completed search of their auctions shows a graveyard of unlicensed product.

Moving forward, I was more so pointing out the licensed prop as an example of solid reference finally being made public. I've handled numerous wrap canes and been privy to up close, screen used reference over the years. It will be nice to see some of that finally shared with the masses.

Unfortunate about your cane tops. I hate to hear that sort of thing.

Id like to see how mine stacks up side by side with the real deal as well. So far all Ive had to go on is memory, 2nd hand measurements, and pictures.

My eggs/canes are just made for fun, and to challenge myself. So Im not worried. Recasters and jealous D-bags are everywhere, When they come creepin its a sign your on the right path.. I say bust em for the slime they are and keep truckin. Honestly I chuckle at the idea of him struggling to extract the mosquitoes.. LOL

I'm happy to have retired my canes long ago. One of my least favorite builds over the years. I'm pleased to see the license version coming out.
Chronicle does solid work so I'm sure people will be pleased.

Have fun!

Havent posted in a while, so I figured Id post a few updated pics of the recent most progress. Ive once again updated the body and fixed a few odds and ends I wasnt happy with. I also found a new substrate to use for the legs. Previously I was pulling melted plastic into hair like threads. But that was horribly difficult, and inconsistent. I then began taking sewing thread apart and impregnating it with resin to make the legs. But it was still too thick and wasnt quite what I wanted it to be. More recently Ive found ultra thin fiberglass insulation thread. When painted is decently workable, but remains thinner than hair. This is much more realistic "I think" and Im very pleased with the results. Hopefully with a bit more tweeking it will be even better.

Looking great!!!!
Is it possible to have the legs dangle down below the insect a bit more though? From what I remember, they all hang down below the main body. Or do they move a lot when you set it in the resin?

LOL I knew someone was gonna point that out LOL Good eye! Yes, Shadeone, They most certainly should hang down more. If you look at some of my earlier pics I got the legs to look more correct length and position wise but they were bulky. Some of the legs made with thread were wavy as well, and that drove me nuts. That one was "just tossed in" more to see how it will look in terms of thickness and paint bleed. The legs do tend to do what they want in the resin, but I think If I change the way I cast them I can manipulate it better. This stuff also seems to "float" a bit so I think if Im careful I can finally replicate the broken legs that float freely as well. Ive been super busy But I plan on making another batch in the next few days. we will see how they turn out. Ill post pics as soon as they are finished. Fingers crossed.
