JJ ABRAMS Enterprise

The great thing about all this reviewing of disappointing things in this thread is that by the time I see the movie I will be so devoid of hope or expectation I might just manage to enjoy it. :lol

:lol :lol :lol

Best post in this entire endless thread! :lol

The trailer looks good, but I do agree this appears to be a total reboot of the series ala BSG. If that's the case I'm more than willing to give them a chance and see where it goes. I was one of those "frack this new BSG, it sucks, never watch it" and now I'm totally addicted to it and love it. So we'll see.

For me "original" Trek will be TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voy. Now the "reboot" can be ENT and TOS2 (since this Enterprise looks more like the right "style" that would follow Archer's). :D

Have to say, the trailer gave me quite the thrill though!

Did you check out the scene where spock is being transported, looks incredible!!! and the phaser is shown twice, cant wait for the high res!!!

If the bike cop is a robot, doesn't that kinda of piss on the idea of Data being a big deal?

Overall the film looks 'big' and visually impressive. Yet I'm getting a 'this is going to be dumb' feeling from it.

- A 200 year old Corvette survived WWIII for that? Really?
- Kirk is essentially Tom Cruise/Maverick, complete with motorbike?
- Android patrolmen? *Sigh*
- Star Wars prequel monster cameos?
- Awful ship designs?

And so on....

I was so hopeful and jazzed for this, but the more I see the less I like.

I had a nerdgasm while watching the trailer. The film definitely looks more "modernly futuristic" than the older Treks (shows and films) and will probably draw in a large amount of viewers from all age groups both familiar and unfamiliar with TOS. I know that means it may be pandering to the general idiot audience, but if it makes a boatload when it kicks off the summer movie season AND is a quality flick, this may revitalize the franchise and make "Star Trek" something that's "acceptable" to love.

One can only hope. :)

I did see that and I loved the effect. I wonder how quickly the transport is going to take in this film...

edit: just watched it again... seemed nice and quick, which is pretty refreshing. :)

The thing with Data was he was a sentient android programmed to be able to adapt, learn, and grow like a human. I don't recall any TOS androids having such freedom in their programming that they were fully free to do as they pleased.

Here are some pretty good screen caps, love the one's of spock transporting and the drop uniform is awesome!!!

I only wish they put all that effort into an original project.

The cop looks cool, but it looks like it belongs in the SW universe.

No, the Federation did not have androids in STTOS. It was always some advanced dead alien race, but their bots were still running around.

I don't think the cop's an android. He walks too naturally and it looks like there are dust filters on what is probably a facemask.

He looks like a mix of a THX-1138 Cop and Hellboys Kroenen with the Hoverbike taken from Darth maul in SW episode one.

Yeah, that's why I'm not completely chucking this one. I watched the miniseries for BSG and after the first episode was totally turned off....but kept watching. By the time I got to the end of it I had the attitude of "meh, I'll give it a shot." Now I love the show. It really grew on me.

One key difference, though. BSG has had...uh....too many hours to count for it to win me over (even to the point where I forgive them their trespasses in Season 3's storytelling). This movie has roughly 2-ish hours to convice me. They might still do it, but the job will be harder.

Regardless, like I said, this is a reboot. I don't care if Nimoy's in it. I don't care what they told him. And I definitely don't care about what snake-oil Abrams sold the hardcore fan community about this somehow tying into the continuity (Which, itself, is so freaking broken as to be basically negligible at this point anyway...).

THIS IS A REBOOT.
