Jim Henson's Labyrinth - My Collection (Sept 2024 Update: Poisoned Peach Prop Replica)

The Grimm’s Fairy Tales book looks like it may be a Soft back book. If you look at the thickness off the cover, along with the lack of indent to the spike area, it doesn’t look like a hardback. Maybe this could help narrow your search a bit more.

You might be onto something there! There is one soft back edition I was able to find on eBay that looks like it has some potential. Infuriatingly there's no shot of the spine in any of the listings to confirm if that's correct but the colour of the book, size, and publication year are matching up. I'll keep trying to track down a spine shot, worst case scenario the book is cheap enough that I may just gamble on it and wait till it's here in person to confirm if it's the right one.

Message them and ask for a spine picture, they can send attachments directly in ebay communications.

Using this enhanced screenshot, it looks like it says "A FACSIMILE" above THROUGH. Also, it seems to be a very short book to have in a slipcase. It would probably only be about 4-5" tall? Maybe it's not a book- an audio book on cassette or some such alternative? Google had no luck with those search terms, but maybe it is out there somewhere.

I’m curious if that red book isn’t also a Through thr Looking Glass book as well.

Definitely looks the part. Interesting that there are 2 versions of the first Alice book on her desk. Nice job!

Seems like prices are all over the place on them…

It is possible that the book on the desk is also a miniature edition or facsimile just like the Through the Looking Glass which Moviefreak posted, however you need to look for a copy with this logo on the side ... which may indicate it's an early edition, like 83 thousandth :

Here's the back cover of the 83rd thousandth edition :

Wow, I never would've thought it'd be another Alice book! That's so odd to me, it's a very quick shot in the movie and yet because it's a close-up on all the book titles I would've thought they'd want to avoid any duplicate titles in case it was visible on screen. I guess to their credit, it took us this long to realise there were duplicates, so I guess they didn't have to worry too much.

Seems like prices are all over the place on them…

It looks like there's been a few different re-releases replicating the original printing of Alice in Wonderland, so that might help me out a bit there price wise! Looks like there are some facsimile editions released in 1984, no idea if that's what they would've used for filming but at least it's time-period accurate, which is good enough for me.

Huge thanks to ya'll for helping me out with this quest, very exciting to think that we've successfully ID'd majority of the books at this point! Right now all that's left is confirming the Brother's Grimm book (Which I might've found on eBay, stay tuned for confirmation) and then the Through the looking glass/slipcase book.

Whoops, I missed seeing these comments! For the Grimm book I'm unfortunately out of luck requesting anymore pics, the seller is one of those mass book resellers and their Contact Us message says they "Are unable to include and/or provide individual photos". I'm fairly hopefully however, as I've found a spine photo of the dust-cover less hardcover version and it seems fairly spot on font wise! I think Moviefreak is correct with it being a soft cover edition so I'm gonna take the plunge and pick up one of those instead of a hardcover.

Also having checked the size of those first two books against my copy of the Snow White annual, it seems like they should be around 7.5 inches. Which that does feel a bit odd given that they look way smaller in the movie still, but seems there's some kind of optical illusion going on? For the record one of the listings for the fascimile first editions of Alice in Wonderland does have 7.5 listed for the height, so that does match up very nicely with the measurement!

Also "Fascimile" being the word on that Through the Looking Glass cover feels pretty spot on, I'll try and do some digging with that to see if that brings up any new results!

Just stumbled across this thread today and am blown away by the attention to detail and the creativity in reproducing the props. I'll have to rewatch Labyrinth with an eye on the background!

Well done!

Ok… I found this….

That slipcase has a very similar font, but color is way off. So maybe it is from the same publisher, just a different edition?

IMG_1948.jpeg

I saw this, but haven’t seen the spine yet, and it is a double book slip case which is not correct. So maybe they made single book ones as well?

You are a superstar! Thank you so much, now it's just a matter of trying to track down a copy/waiting for one to pop up on eBay.

I have enjoyed following this thread and I'm might impressed by all the detective work - you all should form an investigation agency!

This is one of the things that really drew me to the RPF when I first started getting into prop replicas. It's really nice to have a community of like-minded individuals who when you tell them "Hey I'm trying to find this unimpressive item that appeared in one shot of a movie I like" the reaction isn't "Why would you waste time looking for that?", it's "Hey that's cool, let me help you search".

Not sure exactly how many items from her room you want to collect, but there is this piece...

The more stuff I identify from Sarah's room the more I want to track down ha ha. There's a great post here from Branded in the 80s that goes over a few more of the items in Sarah's room (The King Kong Piggy bank is kind of awesome).

If I ever can manage to get a bigger place I'd like to go whole-hog and find more of Sarah's general decor items to add to my collection, like these little wooden clown guys. Stuff like this is really fun, because to anyone else they just look like random room decoration, but I'd know that it's a secret Labyrinth reference.

So I just wonder if any of the books on the shelf maybe also be from C.S. Lewis 'Chronicles of Narnia' series?

Perhaps another hardcover edition?

That said, I may have found a good substitute for that globe ... and it was in my own room the whole time :

Reliable Series Globe.jpg

... so I did some digging online as well ... it's a tin globe dating from the 1920 - 1940 made by Reliable Series, England :

It's dimensions: L 13 x D 12 x H 20 cm, not quite screen-accurate yet close enough, don't you think?

Whilest being online I found 'Awesome 80s Bedrooms: Labyrinth Edition' posted by Shawn Robare | Mar 20, 2014 ... look under Branded in the 80s ...he found several interesting things from Sarah's bedroom which I have not seen mentioned here.

Montgomery Moose Get Along Gang.jpg

Montgomery Moose from the Get Along Gang . . . seen here :

The Poster 'Relativity' made by Escher ... and turned 90º counterclockwise :

The poster from the Musical Evita seen behind the lamp right next to the bed :

The board game Dungeons and Dragons :

And the book from the desk, which has not been mentioned in this thread, yet may well have been found by KOMakesThings already :

Outside Over There Maurice Sendak.jpg

Which is actually quite significant to the beginning of the story :

... of Labyrinth, the movie :

All this because I tried to find you the accurate wallpaper, which I have not, though from your blog I see you've found a nice alternative indeed :)

P.S. Did you find her lipstick already?
