Jareth's Necklace from the Labyrinth

Hello Fellow makers!
From the movie that set my life in motion: Jareth's NECKLACE from the LABYRINTH with the late David Bowie. I always wanted this prop so it was time for me to build one...my biggest fear was the carving of the logo inside the brass. It ended up okay after all.
Cheers everyone!
Dan

Very cool to see the process of making a full metal amulet! I have I'm surprised they haven't made an official release of this prop, there was a super inaccurate one many years ago that was sold through Hot Topic that you can still find floating around today. As an FYI If you ever do a fun of these I'd definitely be tempted to buy

Your build got me intrigued to watch the movie again and I noticed no less than 3 different versions of this necklace and I'm sure there are even more variants as well. Always amazing to notice new things even after all these years and multiple viewings.

They look to also have a different color near the tips. The dark and silver ones have gold/brass where as the one at the end of the movie is reversed and the main body is gold/brass and the tips look darker.

Indeed there was more than one versions which was actually a very nice touch. I went for the one that we see the most through out the movie :)

Chuck on Instagram (AKA:chkyapp) was nice enough to send me pictures it took of the real props at the museum exhibit a few years back.
Nice references that shoes that pretty much evrything if off about mine

This medallion is apparently Toby Frouds (the baby) that he got on set. He apparently had it with him when he was on a Convention lots of years ago. I can't remember who took the picture or where i got it from, probably the rpf forum. i have had it in my image folders for future props.

That's always the way it goes with these projects, guaranteed that right after you finish it you'll find some nice reference photos that would've been a huge help.

I'm in quite a few Labyrinth groups on Facebook and I vaguely recalled someone posting a picture of Jareth's amulet at an exhibit, so I did a bit of spelunking and managed to track it down. Not a great shot unfortunately, I wonder if there's any out there that are a bit closer up. The sign says it's on loan from Mike McCormick, who worked on Labyrinth making Goblin armour among other things. I've never seen the amulet show up at other exhibits, so maybe this was exclusive to this particular showing (Albuquerque, back in 2020).

There are some of these fancy little crystal stands that have shown up at other exhibitions, like the Centre for Puppetry Arts ages back when they had their big Labyrinth exhibit. There was also one that appeared in a Bowie exhibition in New York along with Jareth's crop, they were given as gifts to major players of the crew according to Jen Yates at Epbot (Who also provided the photo). Comparing the two photos, it looks like the design on the amulet stand is reversed from the actual amulet, though there are three sides to the stand so maybe they mirrored things for one of the sides (The third side which you can see in Jen's blog post has Jim's name written in the centrepiece).

Just in case it hasn't been noticed yet, there's one of these coming up in the next Propstore auction, and some great photos of it.
No gold coloring on the points (which I really think you can see in some of those screen caps), but maybe there were either some without it, or it just rubbed off after being handled for years...
