JFcustom's FOAM files

... For example, you want to carve from side to side some long parallel holes to imitate a grid... if your foam is too flexible, your grid will get distort, and no way to seal it cleanly. But if this spot was already hardened before you carve it, it remains hard once the holes are done, and your grid is straight. You can coat it a second time localy to make the whole piece uniform.
About the way I obtain clean grids out of foam, you can carve it after a first hard coat, or you can find here ABCD - Any Body Can Dance ► Ganesh mask ◄, at the end of the first post, an illustrative example of another method that consists, still before carving, in applying hot glue on the inside along the outlines of the areas where the holes will stand. It's also valid for any post-detailing sculpting that might thin, weacken, and/or warp the foam.

Heya guys. Here is my WIP of the classic Iron Man build. These peps were originally Eye of Saurons but JF was kind enough to start converting them for foam ( and I begged a lot). Im a big fan of the classic build and nobody was doing it. The files are not complete. JF is a very busy man and I am waiting patiently for the rest. He was kind enough to convert the ones I have. Let me know what you think and let JF know. Or if someone would like to help tackle the project that would rock too. The Legs, Boots and Side pods still have yet to be done. Let me know what you think. Its my first foam project so be kind. :) And as always thanks JF. Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Hey Dadpool thanks mate :D Well I've not got the worlds biggest head lol my first attempt was massive I looked like one of those car bobble heads lol, So I had to scale it down quite a bit to fit me perfectly luckily the file on the first page of Jf customs thread think its the mark 8 helmet fitted me perfectly without having to change the scale of it :D

Okay, I'm sorry about this. I've tried searching the thread, but I simply can't find the answer to my question, so if you guys can help me out I'd be much obliged ... where do I buy the foam needed for this type of build?

Platazote is one of the trade names for it, I just did a quick google, this is what I came up with

ThomasNet® - Directory Search Results: Brand Name

Dunno how useful it is

Thanks Mick I still need to get my cut lines and gluing to a better standard my glue smears irritate me !! lol I'm working on the legs at the moment then its done apart from the painting was hoping to plastidip the suit but uk plasti dip are a nightmare they never have the stuff in stock :( for my last suit I used plasticote was ok but it cracks easily !!! so im at a bit of a loss at the moment paint wise

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Snarkticon: this is the one you want; LD45:

Zotefoams Plastazote

@ billy: my joints are getting better but I can still make a mess half the time LOL, my mate makes LARP weapons he seals his foam with Isoflex clear roofing primer, after he has painted with a latex or acrylic paint, dunno if that would work for armour
I did notice Isoflex do a "liquid rubber" whether this is the same as Plastidip I couldn't say

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Just looked on youtube for that isoflex looks interesting stuff I wonder if the paint on the top would bend with it or would still crack ?

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Thanks for the info, Mick. I'll use that brand name to see if I can find somewhere to buy it.

Actually, I haven't been able to find where to buy this stuff. The only useful bit of info I've been able to find with googling is that the Plastazote stuff you told me about is the same (or similar) to EVA foam. Can anyone else confirm this? Where do I go to get this stuff? Should I just buy some yoga mats from Walmart and go from there or what?
