JFcustom's FOAM files

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

SWEEEEET MAN, loved the post and the tips, the files, everything,

now, just a thought,
How about more patterns for the multi hero cowl?
Like spawn, deadpool, deathstroke and others similars?

Hi,

After a basic but effective five-days-built Iron Man Mark IV, I wanted to improve and share my speed-building technics to allow everyone having kids and a full-time job to be still able to build a full foam suit in far less than a month. And it begins with releasing some suitable *.pdo files.
By suitable I don't mean at all that the other guys who unfold for foam should better drop their work right through the gogs. Not at all. By suitable I mean that the templates below can only be used under certain restriction of material :

at first you must use some foam mats, or foam roll, or whatever else, much larger than a common paper sheet. Then, you may use some cheap foam, because these templates generate a impressive amount of waste. And at last, the more your foam is flexible, the more easy will be your build. This point depends mainly of the thickness of this foam. I would recommend somewhere between 5 and 10mm. I use 7mm.

The way I unfold allows each curve and bulge-shaped effect to be obtained without the need of a heat gun. It has occurred that these templates work fairly well with corrugated cardboard, and also, through proper tweaking, for aluminium panels.
But if you plan to use some sheets of foam of one square foot, or one inch thick, or almost unbendable, you won't be able to use these templates.

Where can I get the 7mm foam ? I only have the square foam mats. And i REALLY want to make a suit!

tg 100 - On sale at Decathlon.co.uk
You can use the foam basketball courts available at Toys'rUS, Durkness discovered this clever substitution. Or you may also use some foam templates not provided by me, so you can build your suit out of your square foam mats, like almost everybody else ;).

The file is not locked so everyone can remove the blue pattern and create his own one.

Scale and proportions are excellent, and I like your sophisticated weathering ! I'd be curious to know what you get it with ? Sure now it looks like a real used armor, not like a roughly repainted old toy ;)

It worked when I clicked on it. There have been some issues with anti-virus software blocking it.... could try a different web browser to see if it will let you.

Hey guys right so I've had a bash at the mk 8 helmet firstly thanks for your great unfolds JFcustom I wanna build them all lol so here's what ive got in this photo I have the first Iron helmet I built last year (not brilliant but ok) Then we have the mk 8 that I had a go at building last night :S didn't come out right at all in to much of a rush to piece it together. I really need to learn to be patient so this leads to my third attempt the helmet and the end and its come out really well im very please with it what do you guys think?

Thanks bud hard work but having fun making it :)

I had a bash at jf customs Thor helmet yesterday only a small version as a trial run came out ok though and going to make a proper sized one in the near future scuze the bits of glue :D

and today ive had a go at the Iron patriot file I scale It to my head width of 21 cms =210mm printed it off and it came out huge!! so change the scale again and re printed it out looked ok so I transferred it to foam and built it and its still to bloody big!!! lol here's a photo in any case

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Could someone explain how to get the mountains right? I cant understand how to cut the angle without messing the piece up.

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

Find the line where the mountain needs to be. Turn your peace around and make a V-shaped cut on the inside. Don't cut all the way through your peace. Finding the right angle can be difficult but it's just learning by doing. After having done the cut you fold the peace and glue it on the "inner" edges :)

Yeah, its more just the, practically how do you go at it? I cant really explain it better. My foam seems too flimsy to cut it from the V all the way through (i have a really sharp blade so I dont know).

Secondly, I dont really understand JFs unfolding very well. such as the Warmachine one, none of my pieces seem to go together at all.

Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.

It is difficult at times to see from the model on the pepakura designer which bit overlaps, folds valley or mountain and which bits have ledge between the pieces, My best tip would be to not only follow the pep file but also look for a nice clear image of how it should look on google and reference that as well you should be able to tell what goes where from that :) well this is what I do in any case so hope its helps ive posted up photos of mine not only to show my builds but also to give people an idea what the files should come out like. the tip about the cutting a wedge out from behind is a really good idea and once you get the angle right its easy :)

also take your time theres no point in rushing it ive been building on and off for about 2 years and my gluing is still not perfect and I do make mistakes
