Re: FOAM speed building files'n'tricks ►Multi-Hero cowl◄ added.
I was wondering if you'll get around to doing the Mk 42/8 Iron Man files, maybe converting ironmaided's or something like that. Would that be doable? Lovin all your hard work bro!
please tell me you plan on doing a foam gemini sub orbital suit? dont know why but ever since i laid eyes on that suit i have wanted to make one so bad, i cant wait for more reference shots to come out for the back so i can finally get started
Not before full models are released, of course...
Be patient, some of us are working on these night and day.
Thanks!
this are great tips for us newbies! thanks so much!
great now i really wont be sleeping at all tonight ! lol.
-i really like what you did with those. they look really good. thanx man.
I've done a few foamie peps now without "converting" them to foam files. All I do is build the paper model, then cut it into large sub-assemblies and use those paper sub-assemblies as templates for cutting out the foam pieces. The trick is to cut the paper model into as few "natural" pieces as possible, and to make sure the paper sub-assemblies all lie flat so you can cut them out of foam (you'll probably have to slice a few slits into them for that). It's basically the same process as modifying a pep file by eliminating edges, but you're doing it to the actual paper model instead of the computer 3d model, so anyone can do it even if they don't know how to modify or work with pep files, and it will work on any pep file, whether it's been modified for foam or not. So you won't have to learn to modify the file in Pep Designer, or wait for someone else to do it for you.
Some folks might want to try it out.
I know some guys used to apply this process onto paper mache molds of their action figures. They scanned the unfolded mold, and printed it again, upscaled, to obtain foam templates... Every way leads to Rome.
Just read this whole thread and all the tips, thanks for all the work you've put into this JFC!
I have a roll of foam in my spare room, maybe it's time to download pep and make a few helmets before I move.
Be warned that if you start, you won't be able to stop!
Thanks JFC this is all new to me, but the more I read, learn and do (hands on, trial and err) the better I get!

this has got to be THE best thread I have ever read on this or any other costuming forum. Thank you JFC, I can hardly wait to get started on my IM build
This thread is incredible helpful, thank you so much for taking the time to post.
Hey jfcustom ever thought about unfolding comic book web-shooters for spiderman
I think it's too small to be detailed on templates for foam. Anyway it's a kind of wristband with a small palmpad, I'm sure it can be freehanded faster.
Holy shiz jfcustom you have been a busy boy !!!! amazing stuff my friend thank you
JFC - Has to be said, dude - it's this thread that got me out of the mindset of "These people are making loads of cool stuff" and into the "YOU CAN DO EEEEET" one. Mad props to you =)
Of course you can.
Wow so much helpful info here! I'm about to tackle my first part-foam build soon and this is going to come in handy. Thanks OP!
Thank you all for your feedback!

Shame on me, I always read but don't reply often enough...
Feel free to post pics of your stuff here if you don't feel creating a thread. Showing your work and sharing your comments may be very usefull for everyone, especially for brand noobs, or those who still don't dare tackling their first foam build.
