James Bond: Skyfall

Saw it yesterday on my first date night in forever. I have seen all three of Craig's movies in theaters and this is hands down his finest work. Solace...garbage...left me confused. Royale was fantastic. This film gave me chills and an inner happiness I haven't felt in a long time. Loved it...

Tripoli and I checked it out at the I-MAX theater near me. Some of the panaromic shots looked REALLY nice on the expanded screen.

I like my Bond grim. It's become a grim world. If I want secret agent comedy I'll watch _Austin Powers_. Now that we're all current and everything I'd like to see some Islamic Radical villains. The Soviets weren't played for laughs during the Cold War but the KGB is a ghost. How about an Iranian Mullah Cyber terrorist who wants to crash the EU Banking System? A People's Republic of China Super Soldier? A lonely aquarium lover from North Korea who just happens to have inherited the keys to a nuclear arsenal? Something current to the dangers we face today.

I like Craig as Bond. His Bond is a killer and I totally believe him as an assassin on Her Majesty's Secret Service. You know which moment is Daniel Craig's perfect Bond moment for me? The one where he leaps onto the end of the train pops his sleeves and adjusts his cuffs quickly and then continues his strides onward in single minded pursuit of his target. "Yes... I'm coming for you. I took a bullet and the train is coming apart around me but I WILL LOOK GOOD WHLE I KILL YOU."

I loved that scene since seeing it in the trailer!

Side note, I had to run a short distance in dress shoes the other day and man if I was Bond I'd have a nice pair of New Balance on chasing the bad guys! Dress shoes, not comfortable!

I thought it was a great balance of dapper & killer. Unlike Brosnan`s frequent adjusting of his tie this actually looked like a more practical movement as well.

I had a pair of Bass Weejun Hand Sewns that I wore working Loss Prevention in a hotel. I actually chased a guy down 5 flights of stairs and across the lobby and caught him and those never left my feet and didn't hurt either. Of course they were about 6 years old and well broken in. But I was surprised I was able to keep them on during all that.

I thought the cinematography in this last instalment was superb. I absolutely loved the assassination sequence in Shanghai. The whole glass and reflections - also helps that blue is my favourite colour. The sequence leading up to the floating casino as well, how Bond stood defiantly at the front of the boat when he was travelling in to the belly of the beast. Some superb imagery there.

I have a question, do they ever address the fact that bond is a code name?

As has been discussed ad nauseum Bond is NOT a code name. Never has been.

It was a theory that was bantered about by fans that has been repeatedly shot down but the franchise itself.

The final proof was actually in this film where we see his parent's grave. Unless of course they gave his dead parents code names as well...

Or when he toasted the guys who were about to try and kill him. :) Classic Bond.

Dang, you beat me to it! I saw that and was like "Finally!"

James Bond is not a codename the same way Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, Dumbledore and George Mcfly weren't codenames.

That is one of the things in the film I wasn't thrilled with. Connery's Bond had his eye for fashion and whatnot, but it was never on his mind in the middle of a life-or-death crisis. To me, Bond has his cultured side, but it takes a distant second to getting the job done, and he doesn't mind getting dirty to do it.

Probably my favourite part of the whole thing. It was VISUALLY interesting, as well as a good story to compliment the film work.

Yes, but I think Craig's movement was more of making himself comfortable rather than the need to look pristine.

Just got back from the film... and while I've never been a huge Bond fan, I did enjoy it quite a bit.

I do have a question: perhaps I missed it, but when did M get her injury? Did she get shot? Struck my shrapnel or something? Her injury never really appeared all that grave, and if it weren't for hovering over the title of this thread a week or so ago, I wouldn't've seen it coming. I thought they were going to fake her death and allow her to retire peacefully (ala Bond in the begining), but they went a bit too far to show that she was dead.

Lastly, I read a lovely theory on the IMDb that made me chuckle. Apparently, Bond died in Turkey at the begining of the film... everything after his 'death' is his subconscious at work while he dies. If you think about, it does have some logic even if it is far-fetched (but, then so is a traitor agent causing all the mischief he did): Bond's hobby? Resurrection. And my favorite part of this conspiracy theory: Bond at his childhood home protecting his parental figures (M, Kincade). :lol

She was shot in the lodge when trying to hide from a baddie. Its when she drops the PPK

Am I the only one who would love to see some sort of elaboration on Silva's backstory, similar to The Governor in TWD? A great villain, but his screen time was definitely lacking.
