Gone but not forgotten.
Does anyone know where there are any other pics of the inner workings of the Jaffa staff head's inner workings? I've got all the good ones on JaffaLegions, but I need more if possible.

Thanks.

These are the best I've got so far. They've been a huge help, but I'm hoping for maybe tighter shots, better lighting, different angles etc. :)

I actually have the same three but the second two are in better shape than mine... I think the ones I have were compressed one too many times. Sorry I can't help... oh, and bump.

Does anyone else think that emitter looks conveniently like a ST 5-6 battle phaser nozzle? :D

sorry to revive a old thread, but I just wanted to say thanks for posting those photos, they're great.

Has anyone successively built a functioning replica staff weapon?

I would like to have one in my collection.

I was asked to hold off developing the working staves a couple years ago, because of the Lightspeed license, but I got a link to gateworld a couple weeks ago saying that they'd dropped the license. Whenever I can get my house repairs under control, I need to ask around and see if it's cool now. :)

I got one of these toy lightsabers at a local Goodwill, and those "Sith Spikes" deploy exactly like the shrouds of the staff head need to. :)

I just need to time to tear it apart and see how to make the mechanics smaller now. :thumbsup

I have an idea on how the linkage and mechanism could work. I'll have to do a mockup.

does anyone have, or have access to a casting of the front shells (and the back end for that mater)

were there a lot available from Legends? I suppose most were solid (non functioning) but even a solid one could be cast and then cut into 4 pieces and then hallowed out.

what is the approximate size of the main "pole" section of the staff?

Im excited about working on this :)

I just got the lightspeed staff and this thing is HUGE!!!, its about 7 feet tall. I'd totally be in for a working version sgtfang, please say your gonna work on one!!!

Here are some measurements of the staff head, remember, these are on the closed version, not the open version in the picture.

I have seven copies of the working staff.

I had the mechanism copied from the working one I own from the film.

It was my intent to build electric power sources for them vice the pnuematic one used in the film.

My impression was that most SG folks...despised the film and preferred the TV show.

I was shocked to see this thread.

:eek :confused:eek :confused:eek

Seven copies??? Ready to go?

I don't think you'd even have to worry about electronics- It was always my intent to keep it simple, and have some sort of spring loaded push rod to actuate everything. In the first ep of the series, after they recall O'Neill, they give him a staff to examine and as he goes through opening it, I noticed it had a really massive, (resin?) trigger in that hook on the rear handgrip. My impression was that the top of the trigger, up inside the shaft, probably gave enough "travel" to move a long rod inside, to work the arms in the head.

You could have a small spring in the rear grip to retract everything when you let off the trigger.

Thoughts?

Sarge,

That's exactly how I thought it should work. Spring mechanism with a trigger. No need for electronics except for the sound (if needed).

Actually, back when I was really thinking on this, I'd talked briefly with Hyperdyne about cooking up some kind of bright orange, fiber optic-y system that could be installed in the head to give that random sparkle effect when it opened. I'm sure sound wouldn't have been too much more complicated. :D

I echo Sarge...seven ready to go?? Sign me up :p

On Disc two of the season 9 dvd set they have a section on the props which shows the engineers working on the sodan staff weapon head and the mechanism, could be worth a look if you have not seen it might offer new insight.

I like the movie, not as much as the series, but it's what started it all.

Do you mean 7 complete staffs or just the mechanisums?
Please post photos of what you have. ;)

I agree with you guys, Im planning on making mine lever actuated.

Awesome project gentlemen. I'll be watching this with great interest :thumbsup

Oh, and ...
