Hi Jackie,
I wanted to thank you a hundred times for your excellent Patriot modeling. I can't imagine how impressive is the amount of people all over the planet who will wear your suit by now... Anyway, if it can increase this rate, I submit to you my foam unfolds below. I know, foam, still foam and foam again...

And for those who would like a simple version of the helmet only :

Thank you once more, and go on this way for your mkXLVII :thumbsup

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

I subscribed when you started this thread.... The model turned out really nice. Finally was able to start a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier. Still need a helmet and to attach the feet to some shoes, but here's where I'm at with a quick test fit.

Nice files!! Thank you for them!!

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

big thanks, JF i might have to try one of those when my patience starts to run thin :p

the biceps are definitely alot easier than the mark7, whew!
thanks to gaia for the easy foam convert.
im trying to keep them with rectangular form in the front like it should be compared to the circular rounded biceps ive seen around here. i think its crucial to keep the biceps/upper arms thin but masculine to give the shoulders more "oomf". broad shoulders are a masculine characteristic thats very prevailent in these iron man armors.

im also gonna try to add extra rounded detail here and there using sandpaper which could end up being very time consuming but i think it'll pay off in the end.

Nice Job Man!!

Did you modify the blue piece on the bicep yourself? i haven't seen any files that shows that detail out of the bicep?

Looking at the stills etc from the promos, that side part does stick out, but I made the whole side piece stick out, rather than just the small hexagonal part as it's hard to see from the stills if it's the whole piece or just a small part...I've had a few drinks, so I don't think any of that makes sense lol...

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

I thought i would add a pic of my own. This is one from my War-Patriot build...GM

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

yea its just a little patch i put on to give it some depth.
from examining the stills i cant tell what its real dimensions are and what its purpose is so i just did the best i could. like paradox said you make that little portion stick out

that huge star is sick murdoch.

proportions are sickening. looks like a nice fit. cant wait to see it painted!

The star is just a rough out line tobe completed at a later date...GM

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

hows everyone putting separation lines in their armor?
dremel jig?

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

Ah i think i know what you mean. But do you think a dremels heat will melt the foam? If in fact you're talking about foam. I think i'll try sample pieces to figure out what it is i'll go with...GM

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

the lines in between armor panels, the grooves.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

For things like the grooves in the faceplate etc, I used a soldering iron. Make sure it's VERY hot (mine was a cheap one and didn't work as nicely as I would have liked) and slowly score the lines. Another option is to use ball point pens and just go over the lines a few times to get the depth.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

Wow, this is a HUGE thread.

I'm new to the whole foam build thing. I have done several papercrafts and wanted to give this a run.

What foam sizes (thickness) do the designs call for? Where are you all buying it from?
Why do I see people building a paper model first?
Any advice for sizing the project the first shot? (I'm 5'9" tall)
Why are their several files by different people on this 1 thread? Should I stick with 1 particular author?

sorry if this was all answered, but it's a very long thread!

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

Well first off, being new to this, everyone here wont mind answering all your questions, be these are all typical questions you can find answers to by doing a little digging. I would advise doing that so that you can read more about doing a build and see all the problems others run into, so that you wont.

As for sizes, 1/8 foam is usuly the best to use on most of the build.

chest ( you can get away with 3/8 or 1/2 if you want )
torso ( same ^ )
legs
arms
boots
hand
helmet ( you can use 1/8 if you want or layers of craft foam )

typically i see people using 1/8 on on the hands, fingers, and helmet. I have also seen people use layers of craft foam.

as for why people build a paper model first, i guess that is just their preference. I'm not them, lol

there is a scale chart floating around many threads there. the best thing to do is to use the point to point measuring tool in pepakura. once you do that and match a part to fit you, use that scale factor number for the rest of the suit.

There are several files out there because many people are good at unfolding and have their own way of doing it. again it is your preference on what you think will be easier for you to follow i guess. There is not really any one particular file to stick to, they are all good files, there layout are just done differently.

Great answer Ladman. I also think that point-to-point description with pic is in the middle of page 18?
