Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

how is everyone fitting into their lower torso?
in order to keep the suit nice and fit, i scaled the upper real nice.
i can slide in and out of it, and its a nice fit.

i scaled the lower torso 5 increments up from the upper.
put it together and its too small.
i wanna keep this scale, so it'll slide into my upper torso. problem is imma have to cut the side and extend it somehow.

just wonder if everyone else is sliding into theirs easily, or has a method to get in and out. i dont have a flat butt so its super small on me. Quo's is obviously very skin tight and fitting, this is how mine is.. i rather it be fitting than huge and bulky

well what i did was i cut the back along the spine of the lower and put in Velcro, that way i could pull it apart and then Velcro it up after it was on, it worked good for me.

Mine didn't QUITE fit around my hips as, turns out, I have womanly hips :p. It fit perfectly around my abs etc, but wouldn't close up around my hips. I have a cut down the left hand side of the abs that I velcroed to allow it to open and close, but due to the hip issue I had to add a spacer to that side to get it to close up properly. This is why, if you look REALLY close at my suit, you might notice that the left side hip plate doesn't completely cover the gap it's supposed to...because of the spacer I added ;). If I'd had more time before the con I may have made a slightly bigger left hip plate to fill the gap, but as I had black underarmour it wasn't such a big deal, and I ran out of time lol.

Pretty cool man. Personally, I like fiberglass builds better then foam.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

Im cutting my lower torso now..i won't know if i fit till later..i have 4 days off..hopefully i get something done..i have to do house duties and work on the mustang also..i will post my updates on lower torso asap..

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

thanks guys.
yea, even with all the measuring point to point, calculations, and body measurements..
it still ended up too small. especially if you use thick foam, you gotta account for the thickness taking up precious family jewels space, i think i lost about an inch of internal space around because of the foam lol.

seriously, my bawls are hanging out the sides. this is not cool bro.

edit: heres my progress, 4 days work for the upper and lower. a little dissapointed in my gaps, i wanted some depth when the torso moves around to give it that 3d look, but theyre too wide.
might have to make a backup foam helmet cause this one looks too big

hey guys, im currently building my iron patriot an i got a question.

i hear u guys coat your foam sheets with plastic dip? so i found some in Malaysia and there are 2 types i found: spray can version and a brush dip paint on type. which one is best recon with?

i used brush on. i think brush on allows for thicker coats, but also leaves paint brush streaks. i havent used the aerosol version, but i suppose the coats would be lighter without paint brush strokes showing.

(edit) i answered that with MODPODGE on my mind, dunno how plastidip would be different.
i used plastidip aerosol on my last suit.. while it gives nice black rubbery coating, its not thick even when you give several coats. i would think brush on would allow thicker coats.

Torx,

even though it is to small , it came out really good. Your helmet looks boss. I'm starting my paper helmet. i have never done a paper build before, any tips?

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

thx bro. yeaa. def dont skip cutting out the little triangle tabs. at first i skipped cutting out the tab triangles and paid the price because theyre essential in keeping form in rounded corners when youre gluing.

some people like to use hot glue? white glue? to glue paper..
i personally used scotch super glue gel. problem with using super glue is you gotta hold the pieces really tight in between your fingers for at least a minute before theyre bonded. or else they just fall apart like nothing was glued. im sure theres some good glue alternatives but i havent researched anymore. and i used white cardstock paper from fedex office, very cheap for a pack of 100.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Check out page 66!

Torx is totally right, cut out all of those triangles. Also, score your fold lines to keep them clean and sharp, otherwise the creases get sloppy. Use a straight edge and a hard surface to help control your folds so they stay straight and sharp; I use a cutting board and metal rulers, and pre-fold a part completely before gluing. I also use a box cutter (yep, low-tech), and buy replacement razors in 100-cnt boxes.

I use glue sticks from Family Dollar and Alco for $2 a pack and 150 sheet packs of #110 Georgia Pacific cardstock from Walmart @ $7/ pack.
The hot glue works really well for me, but you have to get your tabs lined up immediately or they will harden out of place. I liked using the superglue gel as well, definitely cleaner, but I pep so much stuff that it was getting expensive to use the gel. On the other hand, A full suit takes less than 2 packs of glue sticks (and 2 packs of paper).

I use hot glue im still in my first bag and I've done most of my war machine and part of patriot..if you mess up you can reheat and redo..them build it up if you want less than 15 seconds sets.crazy glue sticks to fingers..lol..

Lol yes you have to decide..you don't want finger prints or you want blisters from the hot glue
