Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! V2 files coming soon!

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Left boot added

Irongatsu- Cool! Are you in the filler stage already? It looks like its coming together nicely :thumbsup

left bicep is ready, I just paint ...
in the right thigh and the left is the fiberglass.
ready also the left shoulder.
I'm running to cut the cannon.
I'm thinking of doing hands in silicone practically cover my paper (formerly resin) with silicone after giving him the shape of my fingers.

I also changed the lower torso, to be able to move, even when the sheath with fiberglass.

some pictures for you ...

I, however, I did the measurements, in proportion to my body, is shaped very close to my size ... otherwise risked to walk a few pieces left behind me :)

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Left boot added

Yes, I tried using a Dremmel versatip with the blade attachment, which is what I use for detail lines, but the problem if you cut something is that it melts the foam at the same time, giving it a round edge instead of a clean flat edge you get when using an exacto knife. That being said, it cuts through it easier than butter, you don't even feel it cutting.

heres what you do:
1-heat seal the foam using a heat gun. it makes the surface tighter for more precise cuts and is easier to seal requiring less solution to seal it. yes it makes a huge difference.
2-when using the hot knife make sure the blades sharp and its hot enough. i constantly resharpen my blades as i go per part.
now when making your initial incision go only about halfway deep and pull across letting the blade do the work. youre basically scoring the shape. i score it 2 to 3 times then spread the foam and finish the cut with a utility knife. sounds complicated but it makes things alot easier.

hope this helps :cool

Looks great! I'm curious, what changes did you make? I've started my pep, but am still working on the arms...

@Leo: Are the different colours different thickness foams? If so, what did you use for your helmet? Just out of curiosity.

Looking sweet dude!!

Question on the neck piece to all, How tight is it supposed to be on you? i have mine set at 393.5, and it is really tight, almost no space between the foam and my neck. but if i make it too big will it not fit inside the chest piece?

Started to work on the lower torso last night, i had to change the scale from 393.5 to 441.2 for it to fit my waist. I hope that wont affect how it looks too much with the chest piece.

The neck shouldnt be too tight but not too loose. Just make sure you can breathe fine. Maybe you can do some measurements on pep designer to see if MAYBE you can up the scale of the neck just a little bit, but im not sure. As long as you can breathe comfortably, i dont think it should be too much of a problem

I would suggest to continue to make the neck to scale 393.5 if thats what you used for the chest and then mod it to work, (assuming this is a foam build). What you can do as far as modding it, you can add extra material on each side of the neck (add it on just as if the piece had longer sides for the neck) to make it longer which it will still fit in the chest piece while giving you a more comfortable fit.

Or you could make a gap the sides like Helagak(on this site) did on his build which he used a spot to connect it when he puts it on. He also used 2mm foam which would also give you a more comfortable fit without having to resize much since its less material. Here is some of his pics that he posted on a different thread on here. Hope he doesn't mine :). Hope this helps.

I will try that. im just afraid that if i scale it too much, that it will look too big and out of place to match the rest of the suit. i have already had to adjust the lower torso from 393.5 to 441.2 to make it fit me. I haven't built it yet, but im thinking that it is going to look a little weird. Ill have to test build it out of cardboard first and then go from there.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Left boot added

What a surprise to be randomly scrolling and have my ugly mug show up! Haha
My neck worked out really well! I just used the templates to make the front and back parts then free handed the middle sections to connect them. That way, the scale wasn't much of an issue. One thing about the 2mm foam, it is REALLY weak. Just undoing the velcro resulted in ripping it. I had to reinforce that part. But in the end I had enough room to move comfortably and it looked pretty good.

Irongatsu- Too cool! Your suit is coming together so fast!

I thought to modify the inclination of the plates of the lower torso, to be able to bend forward when walking, the rear part, will be rigid only in the center, with a single strip of fiberglass so is more flexible, and the front plates will all be separated without edges so they can slide one above the other, from the inside.

you can see from the photos that are skewed.

last night I finished the primer in the thighs, in the hand plate, and biceps. Today I will finish the forearms and neck. I will finish this weekend to spend the fiberglass in the upper torso and lower. post photos when everything is ready.

I will then decide which color to use, buy a can of color and I will do everything initially metallic gray, then I will spare blue and finally red. the cannon will be made separately and then attached to last, as the helmet.

I hope the translator has translated well ... :confused :confused

if you need help just ask :thumbsup :)
