Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! V2 files coming soon!

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Boot added

Can you share it in another extension? I am familiar with SolidWork, it can open stl (or something like this) files. I'd appreciate it

Any guesses as to what it would cost to have a pair of these printed? I have never had anything printed and am completely in the dark about how it works. I was going to build an IP for my 8 year old son. If I can skip the hands in lieu of having them printed...I'd be all for it. But if they're going to be like $200 each then I will pep the tiny fingers.

Either way... Awesome model and thanks for sharing!

Im not sure at all on how much they would cost to get printed. I can upload them latter on tonight when i get home from work to shapeways and maybe they can do a price quote or something. the only reason i am printing pieces of the armor is because i have access to 3d printers at school, so im getting them printed for free. I know the arch reactor that was made and posted on here went for about 40 if memory serves correct. so with that in mind, that was not a lot of material to be printed, there is like 10X more in these hand files.

Also,

I have made the Helmet, Hip Plate, and Hand Plate files for printing. I will also be posting them latter on tonight when i get home from work.

I will also be making all the little hexagon pieces that are all over the armor. The ones that are on the chest, thigh, legs, and feet. I would also like to make a few of the parts for the cannon to be printed as well.

Gaiatron- Yep you got it :) The boot was the last piece to the whole suit :) Thanks again everyone for all the support during this whole process! :D

Ironmaided- Awesome looks great! Keep it up!

Ladman- Last night, i uploaded the hand file (ONLY the palm no fingers) to shapeways and (i had to scale it up quite a bit the original was quite smaller) and it came out to about $365 for only the palm (not including shipping) :unsure So thats pretty expensive :(. The hexagon pieces are a good idea though for printing :)
However if you're printing them at your school for free, thats a big plus :thumbsup

Teragon- And i also checked the price for your arc reactor model, and with all 3 pieces together, it came out to about $33-$35 with shipping. So i think ill get that done when i start building my suit :thumbsup

Yes i can put it in a .stl file for you!! anyone else need it in another file format just let me know

The only 3-D program I have is blender... would you be kind enough to post a file blender can interpret? :) Thank-you! (I wish I could do what you can do... very cool!)

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Boot added

You can open a .obj in blender, you just have to import it once blender is open !
An thanks for the hands Ladman, if they aren't too expensive I'll definitely go with them.
Before you print my arc file, wait for the modified back plate or fix it, it'll look better. I should be done by tomorrow.
About the decals, I made them with Gimp/photoshop and used stickeryou.com to print them. You can find the files in the first page of this thread.

Wierd, i thought that i had scaled them properly. i even imported it into AutoCad to measure all the pieces for correct fit. I guess ill see when they get printed at school.

As another option for people to consider, take a look at www.Ponoko.com. I use them for making prototyping parts that can be cut in 2d. They have materials ranging from acrylic and Delrin up to steel and aluminum. The thicknesses of materials limit your uses (their acrylic's max thickness is right under 1/4") but the prices are reasonable and they are reliable. They have 3d printing services as well, but I get my 3d done locally. Ponoko also works out of Europe (and New Zealand). I think they are a great alternative for pieces like the hexagons.

I'm reworking the cannon and mount, I am basing most of the refinements on the Hot Toys 1/6 War Machine photos. I have seen a couple of possible discrepancies between the War Machine cannon setup and earlier IP cannon photos, but for now I'm making the general assumption that they are (in a perfect world) identical.

Great work everybody! I can't wait to see a completed WORN suit. :thumbsup

They are around 60$ without fingers on my website, 365 is probably a mistake I think.

Both of the 3D printed hands from Shapeways cost about 750 bucks lol

That's awesome mate! Thanks for doing that!:thumbsup

Would it be any cheaper to have just the fingers printed? Remember these would be for a kid who's hands are nearly half the size of an adult.

Just measured his hands. His index finger is 2.25 inches palm is about 2.25 by 3.0 inches.

When I made the MKVII for my 8 yr old I just pepped the palms in foam, and got her a pair of red gloves to wear underneath, rather than pepping all the little finger pieces. That is another option.

Can you tell I'm trying to avoid pepping those tiny fingers? LOL

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Boot added

For my War Machine, I only made the top half of the palm/finger parts. I glued them straight on to the black gloves that I found. Iron Man is screwed because he has the open palm look going on, but War Machine (at least, in IM2) doesn't use the hand repulsors as weapons. Plus it's about a thousand times more comfortable.

Nice, what site do you use?

Both of the 3D printed hands from Shapeways cost about 750 bucks lol

and that ladies and gentlemen is why i hate Shapeways. That is outrageous!!!

No problem man. it was my pleasure. I have a lot more to come. :love

I can only assume that they would be cheaper to do just the fingers. especially if they are for a child's hands. i would not use Shapeways thought from the above post, i would try to use the site that Teragon uses.

Re: Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Boot added

As promised Here is a link to the Hip Plates, Hand Plates, and Helmet .OBJ files. I tried to do a .STL file for Softworks, but all i got was a Certificate not a file for that? No sure if i can find a Converter to make .OBJ into .STL, but you should be fine with the .OBJ files.

Just a note here, all of these pieces are scaled for me, so you will need to resize them for your self, unless you are the same build as me. I am 74" Tall, 200LBS and Muscular build. I use 395.5 in pepakura. if this is you then your in luck, they should fit you.

I figured out how to open the hands in blender... Originaly, I tried to open a file, but you have to actualy go to "Import" and specify that you are trying to import an (obj.) file. Worked like a charm. :) I wanted to post this, in case anyone else was having the same problem as me. Thank-you.

Nice, glad you figured it out. In most 3D programs, you can import at .OBJ file.

Here is a link to the Chest Piece Details. It is Composed of inserts for the side vents, insert for the arc reactor, and the four hexagonal pieces around the neck. These piece's should prove most useful in using foam to build your suit. They will keep these pieces sharp and sturdy looking and not floppy.

Here is a pic:
