Is the XL Rubies Supreme Vader more accurate than the Standard?

I know, I know. :lol

I plunked down for a Rubies as a temporary fix to the having no 1:1 Vader problem I am having. :lol I plan to slowly upgrade and take my time, so don't cry for me yet 501.

I found a nice 6'4" manneqiuin I am going to beef up and make taller, so that is set. I was hoping to find out if an XL suit is best to capture the right look. I am fearing it might be too big (I know the Batman Heritage costume is a disaster when big).

Thanks folks!

Thanks DST. I think there was some discussion that he is supposed to be much taller than that in the end. He def. looks at least as tall as Prowse in the famous NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO scene.

He's wearing special lift boots that internally lift him up. As far as I know, the only difference between the XL and the standard are the size of the undersuit. I've actually seen pictures of the Rubies next to the Episode III tour suit and the standard looks spot on as far as size goes. In fact, the dimensions appear pretty nearly spot on (everything except that dreadful mask)... it's just made of plastic... so it looks... toy-like.

Well... You could always take it in... you might even be able to make it look a little more accurate that way. Either way, you're going to want to make a bunch of changes to make it more accurate. The undersuit, is not accurate out of the box anyway.

The only difference will be the undersuit. I think you made the right choice if you want to go for a Prowse size Vader, the XL will allow for lots of padding and height without straining the material or the zipper.

Hey PHA, I guess that is relative! I paid a little more than I could have since I wanted a new one, and not a used one. I know somebody who's used Vader came with some scuffs on the helmet and shin guards, and had that worn smell, that idea bothered me.

Hey. I bought my Supreme XL used. Scuffs on helmet which I polished out, no smell, everything clean and nice. Paid about 1/5 of what a new one costs.

I'm 6'3". The suit was a bit snug in the torso (shoulder to crotch), but not to the point of restricting or threatening to burst the suit.

I plan on slowly upgrading and modifying - but for now, it works for me :)

Oh, I am sure used Vaders are fine, I have a few used costumes. I just heard this nightmare tale about Vader in particular and it kind of traumatized me. I am really glad to hear yours ended up perfect!!! (And I can tell from the pics).

I actually recieved mine today. I think the sizing worked well, except the chest box looks a little low. Not sure if its the size, but I keep pushing the armor down and pulling up the suit to get it right. In ROTS, the chestbox is considerably lower than it is in ESB, so all is good.

I have to say, my first impression is incredibly positive. I know Vader is a lot of members' passion (and this could never compare to some of the displayed costumes), but I am really happy with what they put together. Sure its not perfect, but seeing this thing up close on a mannequin has been pretty amazing. I will add some pics tommorow.

Having a 1:1 Vader has been a personal wish for a long time. I remember seeing the Rubies statue in 1997 and thinking I could never have something like that. Its a cool feeling to have some semblence of that dream come true.

Awhile ago I borrowed a rubies XL for one trooping event, and went out and bought the rubies vader supreme helmet for it too. I think despite the inaccuracies, I feel that it looks good enough if it's properly filled out. In my case, I think it worked out really well lol

I was 6'6" at the time of the event

Only difference is the size of the jumpsuit. I use rubies pieces for my chestbox, belt, cod, shins, and chest armor. If you fill in the injection spots on the shins and then have everything professionally repainted I feel like you've got the best-sized armor for a EP3 vader. I plan on upgrading the belt boxes/buckle and parts of the chest box soon. Eventually I would love to remold the shoulder armor and make it thicker like in the movie. Here is mine:

I do remember though having the issue of trying to keep the neck part of the helmet "tucked" under the collar of the chest/shoulder armor. It helped me to be able to turn my head, but the other issue was that since the cape was attached to the armor part, the weight would cause it to pull the collar of it into my neck and begin choking me lol

^ uh oh! :lol Doing the ol' "I find your lack of faith disturbing" bit on yourself huh?

And sweet pics J5!

Hi there! You're story is pretty much the same as mine lol. I wanted a life-size Vader and I ended up breaking down and buying a rubies XL suit and a 6' 4'' mannequin this past summer. Since then I have been scouring the internet for threads, tutorials, and pictures showing how to properly modify the rubies into a more accurate original trilogy style costume.

I plan to start the modification process this coming summer when I get some free time, but right now all I've really done is stacked some insoles into the shoes I placed on the mannequin, padded the physique out with bubble wrap, and tried to reposition the helmet dome so it covers more of the neck......and though not 'great' Im satisfied for now, until the real overhaul begins.

Please keep us updated with the mods! Hopefully we'll be able to share some techniques/ advice on the process! :thumbsup

Here's my Vader as he is now. Even with the regular mannequin, the height added by the shoes and helmet make him stand at about 6' 8''
