Ironman mk45 Friday [WiP]

A couple of u guys saw some of my progress pics on helagak's mk45 thread.

I don't want to pirate his thread so I'm starting my own.

The material I'm using:
- 12mm eva foam (puzzle mats)
- contact cement as adhesive
- chip off cutter (I'm German so I don't know what u call it in english) 1 regular size for general use and 1 small one for annoying details
- sharpening stone (since I've started this build I haven't chipped a blade
- dremel for detail lines and smoothing edges
- heat gun for shaping foam

I'm using the unfold based on the collaboration of helagak, JiHo Jung and imim2 so thx guys for your contribution!

I started with the chest and then the back I always compared the unfold with high res pics because the model is inaccurate due to the fact that it was started before high res images were online

Abs section finished. As U can see, the left pic seems wider because I failed at scaling I had to cut 10mm from both sides of the abs to make it snug... Megafail! I'm still satisfied though that's why I kept it instead of making a new one. uploadfromtaptalk1442965705720.jpg

Finished left bicep with the shoulder piece. I had to make my own template of the second part of the shoulder piece because the unfold doesn't provide it. I covered the surface with painter's tape and drew the missing part. I cut it out and taped it on a piece of paper so I have a templateuploadfromtaptalk1442965914903.jpg

Here's my latest pic. Bother shoulders and both thighs are finished. I'm really liking it. It's by far my favorite ironman suit!

I hope you guys like it

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

Your build is so clean, dude!

But I have a major problem with this damn 12mm eva mats. I cannot cut them. Surgycal blade or cutter are damn hard to use and all the pieces come out effed-up. I've always worked with 8mm domyos mats-like foam sheets that are easy to cut, I'm not used to the density of the eva foam. But eva foam is much stronger and details can be engraved in the surface. Damn, I hate that in Europe is so hard to find 6mm eva mats at decent proces -.-" ...at least here in norther Italy is near to IMPOSSIBLE.

Hey there, thx for the compliment!

For the 12mm u really have to use a veeeery sharp blade. I'm using a box cutter and almost every 2nd cut I use the sharpening stone. Then u will have very clean cuts. And, it cuts like butter. I rather cut the lines twice with little force than once. I'm also looking for foam roll mats but still can't find in Germany, only through Amazon UK. Look for huayang or goldhunt baby puzzle mats. They're 5-8mm eva but come in smaller squares. I use then for helmets

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

Very nice work man! Im from Germany aswell. Thanks for the tips for cutting eva foam, I tend to have a hard time with that also. Your build looks super sharp, cannot wait to see more progress! :thumbsup

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

Hey Mark!, Nice build so far! but i think you got confused with the title, Veronica is the mk 44 "Hulkbuster" mk 45 is "Friday" i believe.

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

@projecteae, I worked with a template but molded it a lot because of the missing parts.
@E60flip345, omg ur right! How could I have missed that? :unsure how can i edit the title?

Hey that's so cool! Can you please share the template you used?

im so rry to inform you that i am not allowed to share the templates. i hope you understand that. you can ask mzx because i saw recently he is modeling the mk45 and the forearm is finished (i guess) i dont know if he's going to release it for free or for sale though

This is a true pity. Since the model is unfinished there should be no worry in sharing the missing pieces. Anyway, I'll figure 'em out one of these days.

The file is not from helagak.

Ask mzx if he's going to release his unfold. He already finished rendering the arm

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

update time! just finished the right forearm. it's the most detailed/annoying part of the whole suit so far but it's worth it. right bicep, shins, boots and the helmet are missing

I'm with you there. Just did masking for the first time for only one colour and that was bad enough. The detail in something like this would take forever.

Great looking build and looking so clean. Looking forward to the continuation.

Re: Ironman mk45 Veronica [WiP]

Thx guys! I know what you mean. I'm used to it because of my ironman mk43, the abs part was annoying to paint. There's a trick though: in small areas I just spray the color (gold for example) on a cup for couple of seconds and then I just brush the paint with a small brush on to the little areas. Saves time and masking tape hahaha

here's my progress so far. still a lot to do. got to trim the thighs and the forearms to make a snug fit. i might remake the shoulder pads because they look small. next stop, the shins and boots

Effin great! I've just completed the backpiece due to lack of time and material. I'm gonna refill today eheheh. Anyway, did you scale the shoulder bells and the other pieces like the torso?

Cos yes, your shoulder bells look smaller than the rest and might be worth it to remake them since you did an outstandig work of art here.

Thx buddy! I didn't scale the chest and the back (which I forgot to take a picture of because the back is my favorite) but the torso was still too wide for my liking so I trimmed the sides about 10cm.

I scaled the abs + cod waaaaay to big si I had to trim 20cm from the circumference.

The thighs wäre also scaled up to match the length of my things but it became to wide so I hade to cut 10cm from the sides. It's still to wide at the upper part so I will cut some more to make it a snug fit.

I try to hide the cutting lines as good as possible [emoji38]

Yeah your back piece looks killer!

Now I'm building the abs and I'm using helgak unfold so there should not be scaling issues. Ok, I'll have to trim both sides :D But, my torso has a good fitting. I'll start a thred as soon as I'll have time.

Anyway, what about the abs mobility? I'm still tryin to figure out a way to leave the plates floating a bit but I don't know if this might work or I'll just have to stick with a fixed piece as you did. Are you tryin to solve this problem too?
