Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Building this right now......faceplate and back of helmet done. Trying to finish and have pics posted here by tonight!

So far, really nice unfold deta! :thumbsup

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

I have finished building the helmet. Overall it looks great! However, I did have a couple of questions/issues during assembly.

2013-11-13 02.03.47.jpg

1. It is definitely too small for me. I built it at the given scale since I couldn't scale it up because of the password. Therefore, I can't really tell if the back vents are going to be a hindrance in wearing the helmet, but my initial thoughts are that it probably won't affect fitting much. Bear in mind that my daily job for the last 15 years has involved fitting helmets to Air Force pilots, so I have some experience here. ;) I have a roughly average sized head and I'd guess the scale would need to come up 10-20%.
2. There's a couple of edges without tabs at the bottom corners of the faceplate that should have them. I made tabs for them manually; no big deal.
3. The back vents don't attach to anything, so figuring out how to secure them in place ought to be fun. It'd really be nice to have them integrated into that back panel.
4. Speaking of which, having the back panel be already detached is a good idea since everyone will need to take it off to get their head into it since it fits so closely. However, since most of the top edge of that back panel doesn't have any trim edge to it, I'll have to figure out an attachment method to line everything up perfectly while I resin and fiberglass it, which looks difficult. I normally use small binder clips, but they won't work in this situation, hence the tape in the picture. This also applies to the top edge of the faceplate where it wraps around the center 'V' shaped part. Tricksy.

Those are just my thoughts. I think it's a great helmet and it's exactly what I have been waiting for. The unfold was also very intuitive with related pieces grouped by page. There weren't a bunch of awkward fiddly pieces, so thanks for that! Hopefully a full suit will be available someday? :D In the meantime, I'd love to get my hands on a scaled up copy of the file, especially if it had a couple of those corrections in it. Thanks again for the awesome work!

Trevian : WOW......You do it very quick, i haven't touched the paper at all(y)thumbsup
about the size, i think 19 cm width is big enough. because my ironman helmet mark 3 it just 17,9 cm width.

but in sneaky helmet case i'm afraid head can't fit because of two "thruster" in back of the head.
just like Shane Maham from legacy effect "make ironman helmet small as possible and shoulder wide as possible":lol
actually this helmet i prefer to 3d print and i the poly low so you can make this helmet without so many cutting.
but, thanks for your correction. maybe 1-2 day i'll make support for IM sneaky helmet.so be patient to wait

I am now working on silver centuriom HD
next tumper, hammer head, or red snapper? :devil

Just finishing up mine. It's definitely too small. Ten percent increase would be good. My head won't fit, but I used my son's head for "test fit". It appears the back vent thinkys will not interfere with the wear ability at all, so don't worry about that.

Damn Trevian! Good job, and wicked fast! I thought I was moving fast, you blew me away!:lol

Mine will be done in an hour or so, I'm gonna add borders around the back piece manually so I can binder clip them together. Think I might leave out the vents and scratch build them later.

Overall, I agree that this was a very well unfolded helmet, very easy to pep. Damn fine job on this deta! Would love to see you do the Red Snapper:devil

Here's mine. Added some border on the back part, it all clipped together well:

Also, thank you for posting the increase deta. Gonna jump right back on it and pep that next (never gonna get my mk 25 done:cry). I'll post how the fit comes out for my head.

Stunning job on the unfold, I can't say that enough. Very easy to pep and keep nice and clean! :D(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Please.....Red Snapper :cool

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Okay, I've got most of the mid section done for the ten percent increase. Looks like it's just the right size for my head :D

Thanks for posting the size increase!(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Thanks! I'm getting pretty speedy at pepping after building almost an entire Mk VI suit. I would have had the helmet done the day before, but I took Monday off since it was Veteran's Day and I like to enjoy holidays devoted to me. ;) What did you do for borders on that top edge of the back piece? Have you given thought to how to handle the top middle edge of the faceplate or what you want to do with the jets in back?

I like the Silver Centurion a lot, but I'm not particular to any one of those next three suits so I'll vote for Red Snapper because I know Ghostminion wants it badly. :D For a future project, maybe the Mk 38 or Space Armor Mk III? I really like the latter.

The rear part of the helmet didn't seem to be the culprit in not fitting my head so much as the width. I built the main top/jaw part of the helmet first and when I put it on, I had to bend it to get it mostly on my face, so I knew at that point it'd not be big enough. I went ahead and finished it anyways so I could give good feedback on the finished product. I'm going to build up your new upscaled version after you release the one with the supports in it. I can't wait to get one fully finished and painted in stealth bomber colors...charcoal grey, mostly. It'll look awesome sitting on my desk while I watch the B-2 take off out my window, until I can make a full suit someday. :)

I'm glad to hear the upscaled version sounds like it'll work. What size is your head? Hopefully it'll work for me as well.

............What size is your head?......

My head is about 22.5 inches in circumference. I'm positive the increase was perfect for my head. :love

Here's what I did for the back borders:

inside pic.jpg

I just added wide strips along the flat edges. The strips are not glued together (yet), because the clipping to the main part will basically shape it, and not gluing the strips will let them flex as you binder clip everything together. Once they are all clipped, then you can glue the corners of the strips together.

However, doing so makes the back part of the pull away piece flat, as you can see here:

back pic 1.jpgback pic 2.jpg

The model on the viewer shows these edges to be rounded with the profile of the upper piece. But I can recreate this with the bondo. And, honestly, I think it goes with the blocky look of this armor in general to just leave it flat like that.

As far as the peak goes, I'll just add inner border along the inside peak area of the faceplate. Shouldn't be a problem to get this faceplate motorizable.(yeah, I know that's not a real word:lol)

As far as the thruster/vent thinkys, I still don't know what I'll do. Probably make something "drop in" for them. It should be noted that the vents do not hinder my head at all. While more definitive fitting will be present after fiberglassing, I really don't think they'll be in the way at all. They seem, actually, to add room to the back of the helmet. They look like they'd be a good "shelf" for servos maybe.

Can't wait to see which one deta does next. Red snapper would be sweet, but I like how he does the once that haven't been done, I'd love to see a mk 41 bones:love, but I have to admit, I can't wait to see his mk 33.

Keep in mind, I'm dreaming of the day we can get an unfold for his Nightclub! This is the armor that I thought should have been the main armor he wore in the new movie, not the mk 42!!!

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Sweet lord yes, Sneaky is here! Somewhat disappointed it's locked though only since I'd want to do a foam one. Maybe in the future one will come out.
Looking forward to the updates (SUBSCRIBED!)

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

the helmet turned out amazing! :D i would like to see a foam unfold for it. i feel like i should start building it

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Thank you guys for sharing the pep files. I am cutting & building the 10% bigger Sneaky helm at the moment. (not as fast as other people here)

Really interested in the Sneaky, and may eventually learn to build foam armor using this suit. (will be my first full suit of anything ever)

Keep up the amazing work, and many thanks again for sharing them with the community!!!!
Those of us who do not know how to 3D model or unfold really appreciate your generosity.

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Well I resined my sneaky helm last night. I used the 10% larger pep file in this thread, and it seems to me that the helm is a little large. HOWEVER, this is my first Iron Man helm so I could be wrong. Plus I haven't fibered/Rondo/Padded the inside yet, so that will probably make a huge difference.

Its a great pep, only a few fiddly bits. One small issue where one pep piece overlapped another, I just used a bit of masking tape to fold over the gap.
Will try to post some pics, if I take any that haven't been posted by others in the thread.

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

........One small issue where one pep piece overlapped another........

Noticed this as well, on page 19. It is a minor overlap, easy to fix with it like that. Just giving feedback for further development.

Getting ready to bondo mine right now. Will post more pics soon!

Re: Ironman mk XVI nightclub & mk XV sneaky helmet build.pepakura added

Some progress with the Sneaky lid, can't thank you enough for this deta!!!
