Ironman foam first ever build!! COMPLETED!!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Thanks doc! Take your time and it will look even better!

Thanks gnu, if you mean image hosting, I use imgur just because I do 90% of my posting from my iPhone and they have a handy app.
If you mean ref pics, just google.
If you mean pics for tips, tricks and general brilliance, I use the RPF! Lol

Here is a small update. I finished the right forearm. Here are a couple pics of me fully suited up to this point!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Thanks Doc!
A bit of an update: I finished the other shoulder and attached them with buckles. I also did some work on the abs. But nothing worth sharing. I'll try to finish them tomorrow.
Here it is as she sits!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Looks great. You could use the MK IV brace from robo's files to get the abs and chest together.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

I finished the shoulders and abs! Now I just need to do the neck and brace and the upper torso wool be done! >_<

Here are some better pics of the abs: my wife is a terrible photog! :)

The Velcro closure:

The inside of the front

And the back

I used 1/2" foam for the sides and back and used craft foam for the front with the hopes that it would have a more flex.
The Velcro closure is pretty much the standard aproach.
Anyways... Ta-dah!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Looks nice, i like the reinforcements you made on the inside of the abs. Gives it a more armor like look.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Man, this is the only time I wish I had a PC to play with these files. Nobody wants to save MK7 files as PDFs. :(

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

@steve: sorry man. Really wish I could help. :-/
@sjors: I originally didn't have them. As you can see in the suited up pic, you could see thru the gaps. Not good. I added those to help but I'm still not happy. It's just too flimsy. After wearing it a bit, I decided that I don't need the ab flex since I'll have vertical movement. They won't be attached to the chest. I'm going to attach them to the cod and to a strapping system. I am going to attach some 1/2" foam to the back of the abs to stiffen them up and give them the the "crease" from the real suit.

Thank for the intrest guys! :)

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Damn man, you're blowing through this. Looks good!

I haven't had any time to work on mine. :(

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Sorry for the double post, but I already typed all this for another forum and I don't feel like getting all the likes together again. And my phone gets stupid if I try to make too large of a post on a board...

I tried making a hand last night from jowl's easy hand files. (thanks for the effort jowl!!) they said they were for "average" hands... I guess my hands aren't average...
This is how it fit me before I broke it:

This is what it looks like after I put my hand all the way in!

Appearently, my hands are far beyond "average"...
Time to rescale, retrace, recut and reglue... :-/

Thanks Charlie. Yeah, that was all done in a little over a week. Then I went on vacation for the weekend. Then my little league football season started. (I coach). Now I'm going away again this weekend. That hand is the first thing I've accomplished since last Thursday. I feel like crap that I can't get time to work on this thing! :(

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Hey folks,

i´m also new in building and i´ve made my helmet with 3mm foam and looks good. My question is, i´m from Germany and my english is not good enough- i need to coat it, but don´t find anything right so in this case, can somebody explain please, whats "pva" and "rondo". Thanks a lot

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Rondo is a mixture of Resin and Bondo. PVA is standard white glue thats mixed to thin consistency with water and used an adhesion promoter. You can find PVA glue in home improvement stores or you can use Aileens Tacky glue from a craft store.Im sure there are a ton of others but thats what I use

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Phaeton,
PVA is just white glue like Elmer's or school glue or wood glue.
Rondo is just bondo (car dent repair putty) mixed 50/50 with fiberglass resin.
Hope you can understand my references. Good luck!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Hey all, was stuck in court all day do AGAIN little progress. But I did figure out my repulsors! I've decided against canabalizing the toy repulsors. I found these led flash lights at harbor freight (2 for $1.50! Score!)
yskJm.jpg

When you take them apart, there is a small circuit board with 9 LEDs on it and a chrome plastic reflecting piece.
jt7Ip.jpg

The chrome piece comes off but it will help make them brighter, so it will stay.
PbWhD.jpg

It also has a handy little battery holder inside! (3x aaa. 4.5v)
iVe14.jpg

I had to use an angle grinder to cut the housing apart since I ended up killing 2 of the LEDs on the first one that I tried beating the light out of. :(
I am going to hose the batteries and switch in the hand/forearm gaurd and run a wire to the LEDs on my palm. It won't har sound, but it will be super bright! The sound effects on the toy are pretty cheesy anyways so... Meh.

I still haw to remake my hands and hand gaurds so it will e a by before I have this installed. Just thought it was a pretty sweet way to do it!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

thanks guys for the answers. so this is exactly what i need and do! Will post my pictures in a few days. this thread helps a lot cause i see the steps of making the suit! Go on!!!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Hey Helagak, awesome build mate! I'd love to see the barebones setup you use to make the hand repulsors before you install it if you'd be so kind as to upload pics. I'm thinking about making my step daughter a kid sized Ironman suit as a practice before I tackle a full sized one for myself (Once I finish off my current project lol), and those torches are fairly common down my way (in Australia) so it could be a really handy idea if it works out!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Helagak,
Before you continue your repulsor, visit my tips.
I made it special for you.
If you follow it, you'll be chewing bubble gum while foam building :love.

Good luck
