Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

wow u did a nice job on those! inspiring!
i'll stard chest and back tonight.. so, i hope it will turn well too!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Thanks. Just take your time. Also be careful to make the right cut (angle or straight) and check the pepakura model often. Also, I can't stress this enough, go get a GOOD "exacto" knife! I started out with some cheap razor blade knife and it was really discouraging. I finally went and bought a good exacto and was amazed! It cuts through foam like butter!! Good luck man. Put up some pics when you have some progress!!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

hey man, your build looks AWESOME.....i hope mine is gonna get that good ^^ keep up the good work ;)

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Thanks doc! Take your time and it will look even better!

Thanks gnu, if you mean image hosting, I use imgur just because I do 90% of my posting from my iPhone and they have a handy app.
If you mean ref pics, just google.
If you mean pics for tips, tricks and general brilliance, I use the RPF! Lol

Here is a small update. I finished the right forearm. Here are a couple pics of me fully suited up to this point!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Oliver Platt and Jake Gylenhaal (sp?) don't think too much of your suit, but it's looking good to me!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Helagak,
Very-very nice and clean job.
Just learned from MightyJohn: hand-plate is attached to palm, not forearm.
Why wouldn't I think of that? Merde.
To late for me but not for you.

Looking forward for the next update.

PS: in case you haven't decided, mine is Mk IV chest, with Mk VI coloring. About to make Mk VI chest later on.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

@Charlie. thanks! yeah, oliver and jake are really tough iron man critics :(
@imim2: thank you. good heads up on the hand plate. i hadnt really thought too much about that yet. but im going to have to in order to make my effects work. i plan on purchasing 4 of these:
12-05-01_avengers-repulsor1.jpg

(two are for the wifes future costume) and modifying them to have lights and sounds on command. it seems easier and cheaper to modify these than to build it all from scratch.
nice job on your costume by the way!

also, for anyone interested, while i was looking for that image, i found this nice tutorial on how to modify those toys!! http://chowfookcheong.com/IM II Repulsor/Repulsor 001.htm

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

very nice i think im going to put cardboard on my face plate, good idea! :)

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Small(er than I hoped!) update. I finished A shoulder piece. Yes just one. I had planned to knock them both out last night, but gosh DARN! That was seriously the hardest part I've built yet!! >_<
Anyways, here it is:

So here I am. ANOTHER day behind schedule...

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Its coming along nicely! Maybe you'll pick up some time on other parts of the build.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

I saw you wanted to use the avengers repulsor toys for the repulsors.

DON'T FOR ****** SAKE!!!!!!!!

They have some annoying lines in the wrist up and down sequence. The iron man 2 repulsor gauntlets don't, the voice lines are on a seperate button so that you can use the repulsor without the voice bits.
I think it would be best to use the IM 2 ones.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Ow and nice progress by the way. Can't whait to see more. Very crisp lines as far as i can tell.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Thanks powerhouse. I don't really have a need to pound this thing out. Halloween is my deadline and is say I'm well on track for that.

@jors; thanks for the heads up about the repulsors. The ones I have bookmarked on scambay are actually IM2 toys. I didn't even notice that the pic I posted was from the IM1 toys.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

you just wearing it out for halloween or you heading to nycc with it?

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Ah well i saw the pic so i thought lets rescue a fellow iron man builder :p
Ow and you can call me Sjors btw haha. My full name is Giorgio but that is difficult for a lot of people.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

I just planned on wearing it out around town this halloween. Ive never actually been to a Con and being from ohio, NYCC would be a bit far! but my town goes pretty nuts for halloween. so it should be a good time. I was also thinking about having it for the IM3 movie premier! (march what? 13? isnt all that far!!) Then ill put it on a dummy and just have an awesome man cave decoration!

@ sjors: haha, sorry!

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

NICE!!! I was just wondering cause Im planning on wearing my Amazing Spiderman costume to NYCC this year and it would be nice to meet some RPFers there.

Re: Ironman fom first ever build. Ideas welcome!!

Haha nevermind. It sure would be an awesome decoration piece :p

Well, I just saw that the mid ohio comic con is at the end of september. if i have this and the wives costumes done, i may go check it out just for shots and giggles! but that does cut more than a month off my deadline! :eek
10 weeks to make 2 costumes??? at my skill level??? that seems a bit ambitious! who knows, we shall see how it goes!
