Ironman Arc Reactor build up from my kit. [IMG heavy + timelapse video]

This may be the wrong place to ask, but are any of the kits still available?

Hey there guys n gals,
I don't know if I am the only one to experience this but I had a couple of LEDs blow when putting the whole kit together so I set about finding a solution to having to undo the windings in order to replace a LED .... Here is what I came up with.
I coated the windings with resin and let that harden then trimmed away the bottom section of wire from each LED area.

The LEDs mount to the base plate using the holes supplied and the cover just sits on over the top..... hows it look you ask ? .... like this :)

Still got the small wire links to do but almost finished.
Cheers all,
Grant.

Great idea. Had the same issue with mine, but haven't fixed it yet. Did you use std polyester resin, like the Bondo brand lots of folks use with the fiberglass mat? It's got a yellowish tint, and it didn't throw off the color of the windings?

Thanks.

Jodocast - what did you use to cut the wires after the epoxy cured? I was thinking my Dremel with a cutoff wheel...
Thanks.

Thank you for making these amazing kits!

Great solution! this way people who can't find coil wire can use regular copper wire without shorting the LEDs.

hey gang,

Any consensus on paint color (or no paint), for this unpainted part of TC's arc reactor? I've seen it silver, black and unpainted, but thought I'd ask what you all did.

Basically the same way I did my kit. I wanted to be able to easily access the LED's if needed. I used a bit of crazy glue on mine and snipped the extra wire.

Just wanted to send some props to TK for this awesome kit! Got mine Friday and am almost done. I didn't stick to keeping it entirely faithful to the original. The wires connecting the magnets is larger, and I painted the base chrome, which gives it more of a cast pot metal appearance. I'm still debating on how I'm going to light it. I epoxied the wires and cut a slot out to access the lights should there be a problem, like some of you others have done it. I'm gonna do black wash on the magnet wires to weather them a little too. I also found that a faucet aerator screen fit perfect and came pretty close to the movie version. Thanks to all the forum members for posting here and sharing their tricks. It helped me from making a lot of mistakes!

That came out nice, thanks for sharing!

I have some ideas for some further tweaks (yeah, to my own kit); if I get around to them I will be sure to post.

Just finished mine! Amazing kit. I posted about it with a big shout out to Throwing Chicken on the Propped Up Creations Facebook page. Lots of progress pictures here in my WIP album towards the end along with one here in this post! I added some actual solder to the gold tips but am too lazy to take a final picture right now so you will have to use your imagination with this "almost done" version.

I did all of my wiring a bit differently as well to get a much brighter shine instead of all inline soldering. Check out a progress pic in the dark below.

I'm planning on wearing this bare chested (b/c I don't work out 5 hours a day for nothing) so the whole thing had to be thin and I'm going to have a silicon cast of my chest done so I can sink it in and have it look flush with my chest. I will post pics as I go!

Thanks TC!
